NVQ trainee - charging clients? - 01-11-09, 11:37 PM

Hi there, I'm currently studying Beauty Therapy NVQ 2 and at the same time, working on my portfolio of evidence for assessment. I'm practising treatments on friends at the moment.

A friend of ours has said that her daughter and her daughter's friends would love to be clients for my portfolio, and we've arranged an evening at the end of this month where I can perform a range of treatments on them all.

I wasn't expecting to be paid for this at all, as I am still training. But our friend has emailed me to ask how much I am charging for product usage and my time.

I have no idea what to say to her - part of me wants to be polite and reply that I'm not charging anything. The other part of me is thinking that I wouldn't mind some pocket money (I'm unemployed whilst studying) and that I will be using quite a lot of the products in my kit (apparently there will be several girls I will be doing treatments on).

I'm not keen on charging for my service in particular because I am not a industry standard yet. But I was considering charging just for product usage. I will most likely be doing a combination of facials, makeup (3 looks for each girl), manicures and pedicures.

How much would you charge based solely on product usage and the time spent to do these treatments? I have no idea where to begin and I don't want to charge too much obviously.

Thanks,

xx

I would charge £5 per treatment, I think this is fair.

If you weren't planning on charging to begin with, just ask them for 'donations' into a jar at the end, this way you will get some sort of idea of what people think you are worth at the moment. hth.

Hello Im also in the same boat as u im currently studying beauty therapist. I charge £5.00 for treatments to practice. This is only because my client (friends) have there own products bought. like sponges brushes, products, and others. some take the products home so they can continue this at home. only using small products
