Advice needed!!!!! -
05-05-11, 10:54 AM
hey guys im new here.......love the site,
I was just wondering if anyone could help me, I have just qualified as a beauty therapist i complted me CIBTAC in Feb, I have also spray tanning, eyelash extensions, gel nails and by the the end of next week shellac under my belt. When i started my courses my main aim was to go mobile and i also have my room set up at home with all my equipment, i thought of this because i have a young son and to be honest there are 0 jobs where i am.... but speaking to my friend who done the same course as me last night has completley freaked me out, she has just got a job in a salon and she was saying how much she has learnt already and that there is noway she could go out on her own without experience in a salon, and if you work on ur own and something goes wrong its just you with no one to help... so on After that phonecall i burst into tears, i feel low and worried about the amount of money i have spent and weither or not im up for the job or good enough Advice and suggestions would be great Many Thnks allabout beauty |

honestly, i think she is jealous! you do learn a lot working a salon but if you're comfortable and know your treatments then you'll be fine!! You're qualified to do these treatments wherever you are, be that in a spa or on your own!

Don't listen to her, Salon experience is something that would be of advantage to you but I have managed...
I feel the things i didn't pick up from working in a salon I have picked up from SalonGeek. Put you heart into it and you will do it salon experience or not.. Some of the biggest nail techs haven't got salon experience..only home salon. look at them now. its the work you put into it that makes the therapist/tech in you x x x |

Why don't you swap notes with her over lunch one day? That way you both get an insight into certain tips and tricks.
It is so ridiculous. If I was your friend I would be ringing you up to share new new techniques with you! |

I did exactly the same as you, got my qualifications and set up on my own. I won't lie to you it was scarey but I had Salon Geek and a friend who has been a beautician for years, so when I needed advice I picked up the phone or booted up the computer!!
Practice is what you need so the sooner you get up and running the sooner you will find your way of doing things and become confident and competent!! Good luck with your new venture, you will be absolutely fine. xxx |
