Where do you want to be career-wise in 5, and 10 years? - 14-07-12, 12:21 PM

Just out of interest. In 5 years I want to have my current salon self sufficient running with a manager, and making. A profit.

In 10 years I want to have bought at least another salon. I am thinking of a different type of salon. I would like to build a brand out of it.

I love my little salon that I have now, but it's not in a good position even tho it benefits from low rates and rent, the footfall isn't great and we've worked damn hard over the last 10 months to build the clients we have, we still are only turning over £400-500per week. If we had a hire footfall we'd have more people to potentially sell our services to. I understand it takes time but if we were in a better posits we could build clients quicker (not necessarily generating a profit quicker)

I'd like a city/large town centre location with parking or near Parkin but I know this costs mega bucks.

Where do you wan to be in 5 and then 10 years?

In 5 years, I would like to have improved my skills, and gained a local reputation for being the lady you go to if you want really good nails/waxing. I would like to be still in the same salon where I am now, still just working alone (I dont aspire to have a chain of salons and loads of staff) and would like to have a full appointment book with a waiting list because I'm well known as a really good nail/wax tech.

In 10 years I would like that still to be the case, except obviously with even greater skills gained through decent training and experience.

My five year plan is a bit slower!

I plan to be working full time in a salon next year. Within 2years I will have done the CND complete or CND conversion. In 34 years I'll be either renting a room or a premises for beauty treatments and by year 5 I hope to have a salon specialising in aesthetic treatments but also offering spa treatments....

10years, I'd like to be making enough profit on teh salon that I could take a back seat, have a salon manager and maybe one or 2 staff. I'd work part time so I could spend time at home with my wee one....

Ah the dream....

I should also point out that by year 5 i will have done my CND training, making a large enough profit to do other training with Illamasque and have been a certified burlesque performer lol.

2 years - be working part time alongside my mobile work so I have lots of income and hopefully some more product training from the salon

3 years - have my babies so only do mobile

5 years - set up my own salon in a desirable area employing a hairdresser or 2 and receptionist

8 years - keep going strong

10 years - start to work less as I employ someone else and I be salon manager only doing a few treatments

30 years - retire and do the odd client whilst still being in charge of my salon which will now have a few staff

40 years - sell salon for megabucks and buy an island with sun sand and sea to retire properly to!!

I did start off having dreams of my own hair or beauty salon but after reading many threads on here about owning a business, its opened my eyes to how much hard work it is. So I think is much rather be employed or rent a chair if I choose hairdressing.
And in 10 years time, probably still doing the same as the 5 years time but just more experienced in my career.
And hopefully at 5 years and 10 years, me and my family will be happy and healthy and enjoying life x
definately look into a combined course, or perhaps you could do both?

I want to spend the next 2-3 years improving as a beauty therapist and nail technician.

In 4-5 years time I want to be training to be a beauty therapy teacher.

I would love to own my own salon somewhere amongst this but this is more of a bonus than an outright goal. I know what products I'd use and what the rooms would look like

I have absolutely no interest in owning a salon or employing staff.

I would only ever consider working for myself at home......no high commercial rents, no high running costs and long working hours, no staffing headaches etc etc!

I just want to paddle my own canoe in my my own time and in my own way, earning a fair wage for a first class service and having enough time for my lovely husband, my lovely kids and lovely family.

For me life is about balance and not just about work.
