Gift vouchers - payment by card - 01-07-09, 09:13 AM

As I have not had credit/debit card facilities before I was wondering what you all do when taking payment for a gift voucher by credit card.

Previously all my transactions were cash and I would just put the money away separately somewhere until the client redeemed the voucher and only at that point would I bank the money.

Any ideas for me please?

99% of my gift vouchers (and everything else, come to that) are bought with cards. I just keep a note of how much it is, and leave it in the bank with the rest of the money.

You could keep the equivalent from a cash transaction? Not sure how you'd show this in your books though.

At the mo we are doing just what you do Lynne, but we have sold lots of vouchers and if a lot decide to redeem in the same week/day it feels like you are working for nothing iykwim
