"Use your common sense!"

The title of my blog says it all!
I love reading through threads on Salon Geek. I am beginning to lose my tolerance about some of the threads that are posted daily. For heaven's sake, there are already threads about the new Shellac colours which have been launched only 48 hours ago. "I'm disappointed with the colours; the colours are not what I expected. They are lighter." Um... how about if you apply it with the correct coverage. Simple common sense!
The threads about confidence knocked because a client chipped their Gelish, Shellac, Gelac, P*sslac, sh*tlac or whatever!! For goodness sake you are a strong wo(man) - get on with it! Since I was young I was told to use my common sense when I asked my older sisters almost anything. My older son tells his little brother to use his common sense also! Doesn't anyone think for themselves anymore; seriously!!!! It isn't even rocket science...

thats funny. I have just let a junior go, mainly because she had no common sense. Asked her to get rid of a full Starbucks type cup of coffee. put it in the bin. i asked what she just did, and she said, eh put it in the bin? I said well what happens with all the coffee in the cup when I empty the bin out?? Blank expression.
Give me strength! The best lesson I ever learnt in kife is "never assume someone has common sense!!"Posted 20-09-11 at 09:41 PM by kimi1101

I despair sometimes! I had a girl at the salon every Friday and she drove me beresk! Asked her to clean some shelves and she did just the bottom one. She cleaned 2 of the 3 window ledges. I asked why she hadn't done the other one and she said 'I don't know'. She cleaned the mirrors and then me and the hairdresser had to go over them as they were smeared to hell. She would wipe the worktop in the kitchen and the water would be swimming everywhere. I couldn't understand how she didn't see all that water and think it was ok to leave it like that. Common sense would say to mop it up but she had none!
I would have to tell her stuff 10 times and then some!
I got her to put some prices into the computer and she put them all in the wrong way round. So I said 'Did it not occur to you that the price I sell stuff has to be more than the price I pay for it?' Obviously not.
In the end I told the college that I couldn't have her any more. They informed her and the next week she rang me on Friday morning to say that she wouldn't be in that day and would see me next week!!
Apparently she didn't realise that 'You're services are no longer required', meant I didn't want her back.
She was the last one I had at my salon as I now won't take on any work experience girls as I really haven't got the time to follow them round and have to correct all the stuff that should be common sense.
Sorry Andrea, I went off on one there!!Posted 20-09-11 at 11:56 PM by angelina221

I know what you mean and I must admit that it amazes me how many threads are started for things which good old common sence should have pervented.
Not SG related but a few years ago, before I moved to this house, one of my neigbours kept going on about how she could not stop her toddler turning on her electic cooker hob and how she was worried he would hurt himself (he knew how to open the stair gate). I just looked at her and said "see that big red switch with cooker written on it on the wall" to which she answered yes, I then showed her to flick the switch to "off"! She looked at me and went "oh I'd never have thought of that" really!
Even when my 12 yr old asks how to do something, if I think it's something he should be able to work out, I tell him that he has a brain and to use it or to use his common sence to work it out. I'd be doing him no favours if I told him the answers to all his problems. I think too many parents do too much for thier children when it comes to problem solving etc. If the children are never put in a postion where they have to work it out for themselfs, when they grow up, they don't have the common sence they need through out later life.Posted 21-09-11 at 10:03 AM by Lunarstorm

I was going to blog something similar the other day but decided against it
I cant understand why there are so many gel polish/shellac threads. Its so easy to use!!
There is a boy at my old job that really will just stand on the spot staring into space uness he's given direct instructions on how to do every aspect of the job he has been doing for the last 6 years! You cant teach common sense xPosted 21-09-11 at 10:43 AM by MissOwen

I've only been on SG since May and find myself lately drawn more to the Chit Chat, Biz and Blog because the Nail Pro Forum is the "same old - same old." I know Newbies are looking for reassurance. They need it and I always give it freely.
But Lawd Jeeezus, how many times do we have to explain the difference between Shellac and Gelish? How many times do we have to reassure you that since someone's nails chipped, it wasn't your fault? Seriously?Posted 21-09-11 at 02:37 PM by gr8nailz

This has made me laugh! I have just come from the Nail Forum and it is all about Shellac and Gelish and Gelac. I have one word for all the newbies SEARCH! For goodness sake what is wrong with the search facility. I love it! I often have a good read through on something to see what others have said! I would rather do that than ask to be honest as there are instant answers!
As for common sense! My stepdaughter, who is 23, asked the other day if you could get eggs with coloured yolks! When I asked her what she meant she asked if you could get purple and pink yolks! I had to say that you could and the chickens themselves were purple and pink. She wants to go to the next agricultural show to see if she can find any!Posted 21-09-11 at 03:25 PM by shedunlop

I thought it was just me suffering a lack of tolerance for gel polish threads!!! I use OPI Axxium and tbh it really is not rocket science.....
My mum is fond of saying that common sense is really not very common!! @Sheila, I love the thought of eggs with coloured yolks, but more than that I love that a 23 year old believes it to be so......!!!Posted 21-09-11 at 04:56 PM by Vetty

Saw this on Fb:
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:-Knowing when to come in out of the rain; - Why the early bird gets the worm;- Life isn't always fair; - And maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies, don't spend more than you can earn and adults, not children, are in charge. His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife Discretion, his daughter Responsibility, and his son, Reason. He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights,I Want It Now,Someone Else Is To Blame,I'm A Victim. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, do nothing.Posted 21-09-11 at 07:57 PM by Blue Rose

Y'all know how little time I have for dimwits and I regularly have to walk away from the screen before I tell people that they're clearly floundering at the shallow end of the gene pool.
On the one hand I quite like it when I hear how thick some therapists are cos it makes me look even more amazing than I obviously am!Posted 23-09-11 at 06:22 PM by Lynne Baker
