Quiet time for advertising!

Posted 11-01-10 at 04:11 PM by fozzyo

So today I've had a call from the local paper and someone trying to sell advertising on a doctors surgery appointment card.

Why do people think that beauty businesses are such easy targets to rip off?

Something else that should become part of core therapist training I think! How to deal with cold calls for advertising.

Biggest and easiest solution to seeing if they are genuine ... "Ok, can you send me samples of previous cards you've printed please. And I'll expect a printed proof of my advert before it goes to print and I pay for it."

I've had countless calls for advertising in surgeries, appointment cards etc ... and not once have I seem an actual sample product!

Oh i've done advertising on cinema programmes, ambulance brochures and chinese restaurant brochures. They always come to the salon first and show me examples of previous work and i always manage to get the prime space for a good price-i love to haggle-lol.
I also have advertising on 8 massive boards around the town. They're the boards that have a map of the town on. It was cheaper to advertise on those for 2 years than it was to have a full page ad in my local paper for one week!
The worst are the police!! They've rang me twice now and twice they've put the fone down on me-how rude!!

I am afraid I become a bit aggressive when I get calls like this - it is one of my many failings and try as I might to be polite with these people I just can't.

If I wanted them - I would RING THEM!

I had someone come out to me to talk about the GP ones. She went through her whole spiel, showed me some examples of "happy clients". as she went on I pulled out a pen and wrote some of their numbers down, she didn't like that.... I rang them, no business from it at all.

but, I had already made my mind up as she was going to get them into my own surgery, where i had NEVER been given an appointment card in the 12 years of going there!!!

I had someone talk to me about advertising in a local hospital, he taught people to sell the spaces, he told me that what normally takes 40 minute presentation took just 10 minutes with me, was I buying HELL NO!

I've got one thing to say to all these scam artists out there - "don't call us, we'll call you"!

about 20 mins after posting this BT rang me saying they had lots of people waiting to do courses with me.

this is me "I am not paying for any advertising whatsover so don't waste your or my time".

anyhow, she waffles on for ages about this and that and as she pauses for breath I ask her to cut to the chase, admit she is after money and if she wants to do any advertising for free then I'll continue to listen if not please go away.

    She went away.
