The role of a Nail Technician??
Posted 15-12-08 at 10:40 PM by Gilly T
I have JUST sat down after eating a take away pizza for my tea and throwing my dressing gown on to get comfy....
I went to do my four sets today at the hairdressers... you know, the ones that all wanted their nails doing for Christmas do.
I was feeling ok when I got there... had to park in the multi storey about five minutes walk away and carry my kit case, table, lamp and small box with towel, uv lamp, glitters in etc. My arms were shaking by the time I'd dragged all that to the shop and carted it up to the first floor but still feeling ok...
Onwards and upwards... I set up give them all a consultation sheet to complete and asked them to tell me what they wanted. Two pink and whites and two glitters...
I was so pleased with how things were going.. I did my first set of t&o 2 colour glitter fade in 1 hr 15 (which is, trust me, brilliant for me, I never normally touch this kind of time).
Client number 2... two children aged 3 and 8 months...
pink and white t&o... sits down with a rather fetching red sash across her shoulder. 'Oh, that's nice' I think to myself... She was feeding her youngest on her knee!!! I pointed out to her that once I've prepped her nails she can't touch anything and suggest that she waits until baby is asleep. No, she's fine, she can manage. We'll do one hand at a time.. I have NO idea how long it took me to do her nails as there was some fussing here and there, fastening up, handing baby over, pushing pushchair etc. I was SO glad to finish it was untrue.
Client 3.. had 3 hear old son with her but two of them were playing together nicely so no problem. She wanted p&w's, perfect C curve, just right for sculpting but she wanted then soooooo long, I was petrified and it took me longer to do them just because I'd never done that length before. Anyway.. one of the clients went out for Macdonalds and the children sat quietly eating until the little boy started screaming. He came over to his mum while I was doing her sculpts with his mouth chocca full of chips.. full of a cold, coughing and blowing yeuchy bubbles out of his nose. When he spat it out and proceeded to be sick all over the floor.... poor thing couldn't breath properly and was panicing so I got up and blew his nose and wiped up the sick for him.
Back to it...
Set 4.. lovely set of blue glitter fade t&o's and a beautiful young girl with no children!
So the day ended on a slightly up note except the fact that I'd got there at 1.00 and didn't leave until 9.20pm!!!! booo hooo.... so glad that's over
So wish I had a salon as my back is now killing me.

Blooming heck Gilly - what a nightmare!
Well done for getting stuck in and completing this mammoth task!
What is it with mothers who have their kids with them at appointments? Why do they suddenly go deaf, dumb & blind to their kids once they've got sat 'in the chair'? It really pee's me off - they've no bloody consideration for the professional at work
- rant over!
I don't allow kids within 500 yards of me when I'm working anymore - been there, done that!Posted 16-12-08 at 08:16 AM by Bev Rose
