Common courtesy costs nothing!!

Posted 15-06-09 at 04:18 PM by izzidoll

As much as my favourite blogs are the uplifting cheery ones I am afraid my first blog in ages is a bit of a moan......sorry!

I really do try my best to be upbeat and treat everyone the way I would like to be treated.
Although the courier we use tends to be a bit of a grump I always smile and make a friendly comment....it seems to work and of late I have even had a smile or two returned and even a cheery "see you tomorrow" as he leaves...Result!!
Same with the dour staff at the Post Office, in fact I am now on first name terms with the dourest girl and even made the guy laugh last week.
Today though I just feel like I am invisible as so many people have just looked through me or blatantly ignored me, slamming my change down on the counter without even looking at me ( I won't buy my lunch there ever again!)....grrrr.

So is it just because I am in a less than cheery mood myself today that all I can see is bad manners and rudeness on here too!!

i.e. Threads asking for information with the thread poster not even bothering to come back and acknowledge the great info given!!

People being curt and abrupt instead of just providing the information asked for.
sometimes you can just answer without the interrogation or reading a fully made up profile!!!....try it!

I could go on, but I suppose as I have not been actively involved in these threads maybe I should keep my beak out...but seriously folks as the title says.....common courtesy costs nothing!!!!

(Hopefully normal service will be resumed tomorrow)

No your right hun it costs nothing, I think I'm having a similar day.
The lady who served me at the chemist today slammed the pen down on the side for me to sign my daughter's prescription and then kept giving me nasty looks whilst I sat waiting. All I could wonder was she reacting to me not being pleasant? ...But I had to kick myself and think hell no I asked politely for a pen, I always remember my pleases and thank yous and even tried to give her a smile.

Maybe it's Monday blues, the suns out and maybe they're not appreciating being stuck at work.

As far as the threads go people often ask questions and then don't come back to update or thank, but then there are those that will always send a private message to say thank you.

    xx

I am now thinking my other little pet phrase...
"If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all"
which means I should really delete this lol

Smile and world smiles with you.. cry and you cry alone.

I often say this to my daughter who is curt and rude to everyone, even when she is happy, she just doesn't know how to be polite or cheerful... and I see this with so many people nowadays in my day to day and on this site. There seems to be one or two geeks that seem to thrive on being curt rather than helpful. I call them the 'geek police' as they seem to be there ready to pounce on those that dare to ask a question without having their profile filled in!!

I find it much easier being cheerful than miserable lol!!

Are you feeling better that you got your grumble off your chest Izzi..

So many of my bus customers chat with me, say hello when they see me in town etc and all I do is smile and say thank you. Yes some of the comments I have seen on some of the threads have been very over the top, but this happens from time to time. I remember saying on a thread a while ago, hands up who has pmt apart from me........
Manners cost nothing and yet they give so much.

I do agree. I saw a consultant at the hospital a few weeks ago. She had obvioulsy had a long day, but took the time to listen to me and give me loads of info. At the end I stopped to make a point of saying thank you and tell her how helpful se'd been. She honestly looked like she was about to faint. In the letter she subsequently wrote to my GP, she actually mentioned how nice I was, just because of one simple thank you. Some straight forward manners obviously made her day, and in return, her lovely letter cheered me up.
    What goes around, comes around.

Agreed here too....How you treat others does make a difference to how others treat you.

I brought a pair of sunglasses last week...the lady asked if i wanted them in a bag and i said no thank you as i was going to wear them....while about to leave the store i was struggling to remove the UV sticker thing on the lens (nails are rubbish for picking sticker off..:lol) so i asked another lady at the next till if she could remove it for me...her reply was..."you have paid for these haven't you"....(in a abrupt voice) i said yes i have and she then asked to see my proof of purchase....i showed it to her but pointed out that if i wanted to steal them i would hardly bring them to the till to have a sticker removed !!...she just grunted and said "well you never know"

remember girls, what you project you get back (secret |cosmic ordering).

I try and smile at one person a day (nah! don't smile more than once), let one person out infront of me in the car and always smile and have eye contact in shops.

Saying that, I have days when I just can't be bothered and keep my head down and get on with it.

Anyway, I've used my one smile up for the day, so you'll have to wait until tomorrow........but, I ain't used my one hug of the day up yet, so here you are <<<<hug>>>>

You should come and live in Spain Izzi....boy they test your patience here when it comes to common courtesy!!!!
The majority of them just don't have it...so much so that the ones who are pleasant and helpful you literally want to kiss their feet!!!!

When I go back to the UK everyone seems so nice
If someone smiles I think they are after something....

Anyway I try to be nice as much as I can....until I get ticked off...like in a recent thread
I just have always tried to treat others as I like to be treated myself....it's so much nicer to be nice I think!

Tomorrow is a new day xxxx
