My random ramblings on life, the universe and everything in it.
Caffine
Im starting to wonder if its time to fight my Caffine addiction. So the docs already told me to lessen my intake, but of course me, knowing better as I do, chuckled politely and continued drinking the same level of tea as always.
At first I put the chronic palpitations down to family history, but then I stop and think... the whole family drinks the same level of tea as I do. Two and two does add up to four yet Ive still ignored it.
Fact of the matter is I like my tea, its a nice warm, comforting drink that makes me feel better when I have it.
Ive tried those herbal teas but some how they lack the depth of flavour as a nice hot cuppa tea.
Ive tried caffinne free tea.. and in my opinion they tasted fishy.
Ive tried drinking more squash and juices, but sometimes you just want a nice hot drink.
On and on go my excuses, though I know full well if I wanted to I could quit, its just a matter of do I want to?
Im like most people I guess Im waiting for that BIG thing to happen to shock me into quiting, as if getting chronic palpitations that leave me lightheaded and breathless arn't big enough.
So anyways the latest thing Ive thought about trying is Green Tea and Jasmine Tea. I know I like those and perhaps alternating those with caffinne free tea I may be able to reduce my caffine intake.
Of course both green tea and jasmine tea have caffine in them but not the same amount as normal tea, and that could be where Ive been going wrong. Trying to go cold turkey instead of lowering my intake.
Wish me luck.

Aagh - cold turkey on caffeine! Not good! If I try that, I feel like a zombie with a splitting headache for a couple of days. But then I think I'm pretty sensitive to the stuff.
If I'm feeling boshed to start with and try and compensate with extra caffeine, I just end up feeling tetchy and mardy! So not so good either!
I'd be inclined to listen to what the doc says - good luck!!!Posted 02-08-09 at 04:33 PM by Ruth Mills

I switched to caffeine free tea a couple of years back and do remember having headaches for a while and the urge to drink another cup just after having one. After a while of perseverance though I got used to it and now enjoy it every bit as much as I did the original. Your taste buds and body just have to make their own adjustments.Posted 02-08-09 at 08:53 PM by femmefan

Hi, have you had your thyroid tested and your iron levels tested by simple blood tests ?
Iv'e had awful palpitations all my life but I have thyriod problems and anaemia problems which can give you bad palpitations ,
Doc said tea coffee peppermints sea kelp ect...can make palpitations worse .... coffee is faster working than tea especially for making the heart go too fast .... and is especially bad .... as it hits the system a lot faster than tea does and can make the heart race,
also the menopause can cause them transitionally
hope you are feeling better soon
