Here we go again!

Posted 02-11-09 at 09:12 PM by Retired

It's been seven weeks now since hubby had his radical prostatectomy op. Last week was his first visit to see the consultant for his follow up appointment. Unfortunately they are not 100% sure if they have got all the cancer. Apparently the tumour had bulged right up to the end of the prostate sack. We already knew this from his MRI, but they are not sure if any rogue cells (or even just one!) has escaped into his urethra - the tube leading to the bladder.

They have taken a blood...

Part 4 - Hubby is home!

Posted 13-09-09 at 08:25 PM by Retired

Hubby had his radical prostatectomy (bit of a mouthful!) last Tuesday and he was sent home yesterday afternoon. He is in such pain it's awful to watch, so I rang the out-of-hours doc at the hospital and he prescribed more painkillers. He was on morphine but sent home with paracetamol! Well, it didn't touch the pain did it - common sense if you ask me. His stay was very eventful and I am seething with rage.

Part 3 - Hubby's MRI results are back

Posted 25-08-09 at 06:08 PM by Retired

Went with hubby to see the consultant for the MRI results today. Whilst the cancer has not travelled to the lymph nodes or organs (thank the Lord!), he did say that the scan did show that it might be bulging into the capsule around the prostate. (Imagine a circle within a circle with the inner circle being the prostate). Because of this, his only option is open surgery as the consultants wants to, in his words, "put his hand in and have a feel around, particularly the lymph glands"...

Update on hubby

Posted 28-07-09 at 06:36 PM by Retired

For all those who kindly read my previous blog, we kept the appointment and have been back now for about an hour. Well, unfortunately the tumour is cancerous in his prostate. We now have to make an appointment for an MRI scan to see if it has travelled to surrounding organs or lymph nodes. We have to ring tomorrow because the lady who does the appointments had gone home (!).

After that he has an appointment for 1 month's time on 25th August (our son's 27th birthday no less!) when...

Please keep your fingers crossed for us

Well, every time I blog I seem to be moaning about something. I suppose it's a way to get things off your chest, so please forgive me if this another one of those blogs.

Hubby had a pain in his left groin and going to the loo a lot each day, so I made him go get it checked out. The doctor thinks it might be diverticulitis, but had previously taken a blood test for his PSA levels (prostate) and every year he has a man MOT which he pays for as he has always been conscious of his health....
