Acting worse than hair?

Just got an unusual friend request on Facebook. My old Art Director at Screenworks!

Right before I discovered the wonderful world of Nails in about the days of 1993, I worked in the art department of a fairly successful t-shirt company. It was a great atmosphere of ubur talented people and I really have a lot of fond memories of that place.

Chris (the art director/facebook requester) was a very cool, but unlikely individual. Unlikely in the sense that he was very much...

Consistent Excellence

Posted 01-02-08 at 03:36 PM by The Geek (Blog of a Geek)

I was re-reading (for about the 4th time) a book by Michael Gerber called “The E-Myth Revisited”. For those of you that have not been exposed to this superb book, E-Myth is the ‘Entrepreneurial Myth’ that if you are good at what you do, you will be successful running a business based around those skills. For example; Sally is a great nail technician – she should start “Sally’s nail salon” or Bob is a great electrician so surely he should work for himself and start up “Bob’s Sparky Services” as that...

My interpretation of the article was that enhancement services are becoming less desirable while natural nail services are becoming more in demand. Knowing Marian, I am aware that this wasn't exactly what she was getting at, instead I believe that she was trying to challenge more professionals to be more pro-active...

24 in four

Posted 26-08-07 at 03:59 PM by The Geek (Blog of a Geek)

I ended up staying up stupidly late last night. Why? Was it because I was a raging party machine that wouldn't stop for nought?

Sadly, the answer is no. The real reason I got very little sleep last night was because I was too freaking busy watching the rest of season 4 of 24 on DVD.

Samantha and I picked up the 24 DVDs from season 1 after we had finished casually cruising through all the West Wing series. It took us a year to get through the West Wing DVDs, but it was...

Smashed after pumpkins

Posted 25-08-07 at 03:02 PM by The Geek (Blog of a Geek)

Went to the Carling Leeds festival last night with Christian (my brother-in-law) so that we could catch Smashing Pumpkins who have recently reformed for a new album and tour (I say reformed, but in all reality it is still mainly Billy Corgan and the drummer at the core).

It was my first Festival in the UK and man, it was an interesting one. All-in-all the festival was quite cool, though we only got there for the last part of NIN (who were before Smashing Pumpkins).

Pumpkins...
