So you’ve done your training, you’ve practiced a lot and feel confident enough to be let loose on the public at large … only trouble is how are they going to find about you? Word of mouth is always the best and cheapest way of getting clients, but if you’ve no clients in...

Sassy,

That's brilliant - i thought i was back in field sales with YP for a minute!!!

I too was Rep of the Year for Yellow Pages and spent 20yrs in advertising!
Your post was very informative for all those who don't have any advertising experience, which is most of us really - only us few i suppose in the business who are now techs.

It's very refreshing to see someone else who's taken onboard the basic understanding of 'why should I advertise?'.

I always used to say to people who said they were well known & did not need to spend money advertising - 'Why does BT advertise?' (which was back in the days before any other remote possibility of competition from other telephone companies) and people couldn't answer me. It's because they don't just have phone lines, they have lots of different services associated with those phone lines - BT Together, Friends & Family etc, etc Reasons to shout, gain more attention to what they do - even thought at that time EVERYONE who picked up the phone to make a call was using a BT Line!! If they shouted about all the services they did - that customer picking up the phone to use a BT line may also find they needed a certain type of alternative service offered by BT - therefore more money to them!!

I'm sorry that was long winded, but i'm trying to say there's always a need to shout about your own business because of the different things that your business offers - as Sassy said very well -AIDA - An advert should always have this!

Grab they're Attention
Keep they're Interest
Create a Desire
Give them the means to taske Action (Name & Phone number!)

Good luck with all your advertising. XX

Thank you all for your positive feedback. it took me a hell of a long time to precis this one as I have a tendency to waffle anyway (which my English teacher used to delight in telling me ALL the time). Glad it was appreciated.

Like you say Bev Rose, look at the marketing of the big guys such as Coca cola, probably the most recogniseable brand in the world, and yet they still need to let us know they are out there and spend mega bucks doing so.

We are just coming into the busier period for the year so get advertising now! If you don't someone else will!
