I think it depends on if you have kids or not.....they love it and just want to take part....so for that reason we do the pumpkins....get the kids all dressed up and trick or treat the neighbours.

it's is only 1 night a year.

I lit 2 pumpkins on the drive......bought lots of sweets & not 1 child came to the door....

I think its because we have moved.....its posher here......perhaps people on the close are a bit tight lol lol

My kids always went out trick or treating at halloween when they were younger.......The adults would dress up too and take them around the houses ...

I live on the outskirts of the village and in 12 years no one has ever bothered coming this far out of the village UNTIL tonight, caught me totally unprepared ..xx

We only had one lot of Trick or Treaters tonight - and we had a pumpkin bag full of sweets waiting for them...

My trick or treaters just started about a half hour ago. I'm not in the mood but am faking it. LOL! I am, however looking forward to my neighbor's bonfire later.

Legalised begging if you ask me . . .
I would never give them anything. Why did we have to adopt this stupid American custom anyway? they don't have Guy Fawkes night do they?

And it encourages older teenagers to go out on the scrounge because they can put on gruesome Halloween masks and remain anonymous, so that when you refuse to give them anything they can then egg your house/car, or worse, without being recognised.

Roll on November.

I dont think my children were begging, it was a night of dressing up & fun times.

As for older teens, i have 4 of those and they are all well adjusted teenagers who have been taught better...I think we need to ask ourselves where the parents of the teenagers are !!

I dont give anything to anyone whos not properly dressed up,,

Children who come to the door with the intention of showing me how much trouble theyve gone to with their costume >> I always have some sweets for them...

Its once a year & its a bit of fun.....there will always be idiots who ruin it for the others...

HALLOWEEN!! a few years back when i lived oop north i had a trick or treater come to the door now this wasnt a little cute kid with a pumpkin mask it was a teenage chavvy and his mates demanding money!! or they would do something nasty i basically told them to p""ss off
A few mins later the dog is going mental ( bonnie my stafford softest dog i have ever owned but she looked evil!! loved kids and always wanted to play) they had set fire to my work boots that were outside the front door!!
I opened the door and let the dog go !! Now in the dogs mind it was time to play with the kids!! she would of licked em to death
but to the chavvys a half eared scarred brindle slathering monster with huge teeth was after there bottys !! once they got to the end of the street i called her back stamped on my boots burned my feet ect and thought that was the end of the matter
FOR THE NEXT WEEK THE DOOR NEVER STOPPED WITH TRICK OR TREATERS!! and I greated them all with the dog held by the collar growling and the obligatary P"SS OFF

one kid who knocked on my door i knew as he was a member of my fishing club and lived 2 miles away from me I asked him why he had walked all the way through some of the worst parts of manchester at this time of night to knock my door!! the answer astonished me
at school JIMMY MASKELL the 1st kid to call who set fire to my boots!! and who i later found out had wet himself as he run away with bonnie at his heels
had put a notice up with my address telling all the kids in school that i gave him and his mates a fiver each!!! kids dont you just love em!!

Well we have had some very impressive ghosts, witches,zombies, cats and pumkins at our door. They all realy made the effort and they told me that they have been halloweening it all day. Pumkin carvin, apple bobbin aso. family party time......
All the sweets have gone and all the kids we had knocking on our door, where just so excited, thrilled to get a handful of sweets and I have to say all had adults waiting for them in the background.

Well I too like Ruth and Sonia had my box of sweeties ready and some smashing carved out pumpkins
and about four lots of lovely little kiddies all face painted and dressed up with hats and wigs and the Parents and Grandparents dressed up also escorting their kiddies , for some lighthearted fun,

I think when kiddies are small ..... the more you say no to trick or treating the more they will want to go trick or treating ,
anyway where I live most parents with children know each other and will only knock on doors of neighbors they know ,
and we all understand its only a fun kiddie thing one night a year ,
so we try to make it a nice fun night for them all ,

Anyway it was lovely to see all the effort they had made with their little costumes and it was wonderful to see their happy little faces
