Hi, can a lovely computer geek give me some info, My daughter has been sent some disturbing child pornography pictures from someone she got talking to on msm, luckly we have rules about the internet and she is very aware of these sort of sick people. She has a saved conversation from the msn in a folder, I have tried to open them in word, notepad and media but they just come up as symbols but it just somes up in symbols etc, is there anyway I can open this file ?

i personally would go straight to the police they have experts that can find anything on the computer. I wouldnt even wait around about it. x

I'm phoning the police today, the pics are child pornography and very sick, I wanted to open the file to see what has been writen her, when I ask her she just bursts into tears.

Just go straight to the police, how disgusting. I'm sure the police will have computer wizz's that will open them. I'm sure when they are done with the computer they will ensure they are wiped off for you too.

I havnt slept all night, from what I can make out it looks like he might have been grooming her, thank god we have discussed all this kinda thing and the dangers of the internet

Normally when in the chat logs folder, if you just double click the chat log it will automatically open in an internet style page for you to view the convo. it will show any emoticons sent but not any pictures that i know of. Hope you get it sorted. xx

Another reason to go the police is that your computer now has illegal images on it! Good thing your daughter came to you right away.

Lilly I hope you get this sorted very very soon. I can appreciate your distress. I echo what everyone else has said about involving the police urgently.

Whatever you do, don't delete any information even if you don't understand it, because I am sure the police will have the means to deal with this. Good luck!

How horrible for all of you.Its hard to believe that with all the ways these people get found out they are still risking getting caught just goes to show how sick and desperate they are,
I would mention to the police that she is very upset and tearful about it and will not talk to you about it and they can probably arrange for someone in the know for her to have a chat with.
Its hard enough for adults to cope with seeing certain images let alone a child and it may stay with her without a bit of help.

Definitely go to the police! They should hopefully be able to trace the IP address of the computer that the images came from - and use that to trace the ISP (Internet Service Provider) - they would then contact the ISP to work out who's account the images came from, and hopefully the offender will be receiving a knock on the door from the boys in blue in due course...

Hi, my Sister recently had to tell the police about some child pornography that she found too and she was completely sickened like you ,
she rang the police and they took charge of the matter

you must report it now .... as its all our duty to protect other little children just think of those poor children in the pictures who may have been abducted and then abused , and goodness knows what , God help them
its out of your hands really and
you have no choice , I know my sister was very shocked too but like her .... you just have to let the police handle this matter now ,

and your Daughter will probably be offered some comforting counseling

PS... you mustn't try and open the porn site again until until you have been in touch with the police ..... they will tell you what to do

Ah thanks guys, its in the hands of the police now. These people are completely sick, the poor little thing on the pic, however do they live through the phycial and emotional pain
