just as an aside... you can also get a bit more technical by doing something like:
Code:
<a href="#" onclick="javascript:window.open('bigpic.jpg','Title','scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=550,height=500');"><img src="thumbnail.jpg" border="0"></a>

Sorry to highjack the thread, I just wondered if there was any way of getting site stats for .pdf file that I have on my site?
I have my brochure as a downloadable .pdf, and given that no-one's rung me for a copy yet, I am half-hoping that maybe they are at least downloading it (and out of interest, does anyone know the code for opening a link in a new window? had it once and lost it but want people to be able to open my .pdf s without exiting the site..) Ta muchly xx |

Hi Linda,
in the meantime before Sean gets time to get back to you (if he has not done so privately) - if you go to the Nail Directory there are loads of information things there - including all of the codes etc for the galleries from LND. I used this format and I also use FrontPage - mine is not as nifty as Jackie's though as I have too many nails in the thumbnails LOL. |

Hi Linda, no probs with offering help, that's what I'm here for. I see you already use thumbnails on your site, excellent stuff, by the way your site is looking really good. To have your pics open up like on the Liberty site, you'll need to use some javascript code, but dont worry, as Fiona has explained (Thanks Fiona, nice to know that someone has read through it...*S*)the pages are already setup in The Nail Directory help section along with detailed explanations on how to incorporate them into your site.
First of all though, become familiar with, say 3 or 4 pictures. Give them simple names, French1.jpg, French2.jpg, French3.jpg and French4.jpg. Make thumbnails using the free thumbnail maker from http://www.fookes.com/ezthumbs/index.php?2.53 Call the thumbnails easy-to-remember names, ie thfrench1.jpg, thfrench2.jpg, etc, etc. In the default settings you can specify how large or how small you want the thumbs to be. Now go to the gallery pages in The Nail Directory at http://www.thenaildirectory.com/gallery.html and choose the 4 pic gallery page. Take note that the galleries and the pages are already made, you just add your pics, your text and change the background colours, etc. I've explained the code and the details that you need to add. Please remember that the first time you do this, its just a trial run, to help you understand, hence the simple picture names above. However, you will need to know to work your way through the HTML. Lol, what are you using at the mo' to record your stats? I'm using Statcounter, it's free and it's fantastic although the free version only lists your last 100 visitors, but it's very easy to use and professional in appearance. At the moment, it doesnt track individual downloads, but there is some development expected toward the end of the month. If your present counter tracks individual pages can you not tell how long a visitor stayed on your brochure page? Not exactly scientific, but it might give you an indication. To open a page in a new window, just use target="_blank" after your link url, ie, <a href="page2.html" target="_blank">Page 2</a> |

Thanks Seanny
At the moment I am just using the Geocities site stats, and they only have stats for the htmls, not the pdf links so can't tell if anyone has opened them, I suppose that I could hope that the number of people who visit my brochures page then click on to download them. Not sure if they have as much detail as how long people have stayed on the page for, I'll check it out, and also check out that free stat counter, thanks! |
