I had bad sinuses a while back, went to the doctor who took a deep sigh and by the look on his face it was "not another one, stop wasting my time"! Anyway he suggested having steam inhalation baths with something like Vicks in it, but you had to do it every hour, and then have a good blow out (i know TMI- too much information!). Give him his due, it really worked - had crap hair though!
Funnily enough we are thinking about training to do Hopi Ear candles so would be interested to see if others have found this works. |

i have the same problems lesley, i am currently 1/2 way through a 26 week waiting list for a scan of my head so that my consultant can treat me correctly. meanwhile i find sudafed tablets helpful, they are a decongestant combined with a painkiller, regular pain killers just dont touch it, sometimes i feel like ive been hit in the face with a criket bat or something. i hope you find that helps, its miserable when it just lingers on for days .

Not sure if this works, but i have been told in the past that if you had a headache, to pinch quite firmly on your wrist, where you would hold if you were checking someones pulse. I havent tried this when i have had a headache, so am not sure if it works, but its worth a try. I think you have to hold the pinch for a few minutes.
Let me know if it does work, id be intriged to know! Michelle x |

I would love to know if Hopi ear candles work. I've been blessed(!) with very narrow 'tubes' connecting my ears/nose/throat which lead to a lot of bad ear pain as a child. Don't suffer so much now (just my stupid muscle pains whenever it's remotely cold

Hi Lucia,
Found this on the web What Conditions Can Ear Candles Help? Ear candles can help with the treatment of sinusitis, rhinitis, earwax, earache and irritation of the ears including tinnitus. It is also suitable for the treatment of headaches and migraines. It is not suitable for those with perforated eardrums, where grommets are in place or those who may have an allergy to the ingredients. It is a safe and gentle treatment for children. The Treatment The treatment is very gentle and relaxing and may take up to an hour, depending on the condition being treated. The candle is placed over the ear orifice and ignited. It is only allowed to burn to within 4 inches of the end of the candle. As it burns it produces a gentle local heat. The warm air combined with the oil and herbs soften the wax and draw it into the base of the candle. The candle is then removed and the ear and surrounding area is then massaged. The treatment is repeated on the other ear and then a complete facial massage is carried out, paying particular attention to the sinus areas. Hths |

As a therapist who trained in Hopi Ear (Thermo Auricular Therapy) And someone who uses it on herself I can definately say it does help sinus problems, Though I would recommend you see your GP if you have a sinus infection,as it only helps clears the tubes and sinus not actually get rid of infection

Does that mean Lell you have to stick the said candle in your earhole and light it?
Oh my god i can see it now, im not called scatty for nothing, i would set fre to myself, my hair and have hot wax driping everywhere or i would fall asleep with candle still in ear. How can you see when its 4" away from end, sounds rather complicated to me, let me know how you get on lell and take some pics this could be amusing |

Ok Lesley try this one that should relieve your sinuses in 10mins. Have a hot bath and then after you have dried off, sit down and start on your left foot with your little toe. Hold the base of your toe (fingers either side) and walk your fingers up to the tip of the toes applying firm pressure, when you get to the top give a little scratch to the tip of the toe with your fingernail and repeat on all ten toes. Repeat this if its a really bad headache and it should unblock your sinuses.

OOoh Ill give that one a go too David (is that a Reflexology tip?)
I also go to college with a Holistic therapist and I know she carries out Hopi ear candles, so I may look into that too. Lucia... you make me laugh... I have the funniest pic of you in my mind.. sitting bolt upright, candle shooting out your head on either side, dripping wax, pmsl!!! |
