I can understand wanting a copy of passports or NI numbers - that'll be because the banks/building societies are strictly regulated and are penalised hugely if found to be supply money to any terrorist groups, and illegal immigrants are faking ID's to get all sorts of credit
but the college certs seems a bit extreme! Well done for walking away from that one!No recommendations - sorry, we got ours via our Estate Agents first time round (15 years ago!!) and we've got a One Account now which is an off-set mortgage, and I've only had the two! |

It's to check your credit rating with the bank and confirm you are who you say you are, that you are a good banking customer, they'll get a reference from the bank basically. It's standard procedure to ask for this kind of info. It's nothing more than they would have if you gave them a cheque as all this detail on there anyway, but we don't tend to worry about handing a cheque over, it just rings alarm bells if someone asks for the details |

Hi Buttonmoon,
I am a mortgage broker by day.....and evening ......oh and weekends!!!...how do I get any time to do nails?? I have been an independent broker for 3 years now, and have NEVER had to tell a lender from which university one of my clients got thier qualifications. I find that a bit amusing, although it is odd - I don't think there is anything fishy about it...I can't think of anything dodgy that he might use the information for, but if you don't like the question don't answer it. With regard to your bank details, he will need them at some stage so that the new lender can arrange a direct debit, but on MY first contact with a new client it is very rare for me to ask for their bank details unless they have pretty much agreed to go for a particular mortgage and I can do the paperwork there and then. As I said before, if you don't like the question don't answer it. Regards Simon. |
