GUess the cost of this website? -
19-08-05, 02:11 PM
Hi all,
can you guess the cost of this website? http://www.gillingdod.com/ I might add it wasn't done by myself but some friends of mine who are professional web designers. I am doing this as an experiment to see what peoples perception of web design as costs are, and try to explain why some sites cost a lot and others don't. |

Don't have a clue! Its not what I think of when I visit a website. I find ease of use more important factor when looking on the web.
Would be interesting to find out tho! I mean my website only cost me £8.00 inc vat! |

Most companies I go to are thinking of their corporate image, If you look at your website as your shop front you have to get customers inside your door first before you can show them your goods. If your shop looks tatty/run down then chances are they may decide to shop next door (hope I am making sense).
Its not just down to ease of use/navigation etc (although it certainly helps), if you give your customers the confidence to step into your shop in the first place you are on to a winning formula. Some of my clients appear to be much larger businesses online merely because of how their website looks. If a business is perceived to be large and successful then the customer is more inclined to buy/visit that business. |

Id say circa £300. I only quickly browsed the flash site, but bailed when the news section (which hadnt been updated for 9 months) went buggy.
The figure though - totally depends. Everything appears to be static (ie no backend to draw info from) and the look and feel is pretty template like. At the end of the day I could see someone paying £100 - £1000 depending on their budget and tech savvy-ness. Just my 2 cents |

I think it's a bit 'how long is this piece of string' Techygeek.......
Husband is subscribed to Swishmax and there are hundreds of free templates on there of a similar calibre to that (and better and worse!) and there are loads of others to buy, and prices range from $10 upwards Rough guess: Domain name £5 Hosting (12 months - depending on web site size of course) £100 Web designers time - 2 days - if given all the pictures etc. in the right format - Again dependant on designers experience & costs, but I would pay no more than £250 £355 ish Trin xx |
