Get him to love the place first sarah before you tell him the cost! have you looked at other places less pricey? I got married here http://www.coppleridge.com/functions.htm
as I said in the barn (lol) in front of the fireplace, 4 years ago and it didn't cost the earth. |

OOh Suzie that looks fab, bet you and Jed had a wonderful day! I love the marquee too, but I hope the pond doesn't have a fountain, cos I'd have to keep running off to have a pee with the sound of running water lol!
Sarah find three places that are way more expensive so that when you take him to this place he will think it's a bargain and go for it. Ifind with men that you have to trick them into thinking it was their idea in the first place! |

My first wedding 30 odd years ago was the HUGE BIG DO. We had everything, and as a young bride it was just what I wanted. However I spent that much time planning and then kind of keeping a wary eye on everything on the day that looking back I spent too much time worrying about everything to really appreciate it all.
My second wedding 3 years ago was totally different. Really low key, but surrounded by family and friends. There was no fussing about who sat where at the reception, it was so very informal. Register office, no big flash limo's etc. We did have it at a country club house that we were members of at the time and it was a sunny day and people just milled around and chatted and really enjoyed themselves. The reception was brill with my son being the best man and doing a hillarious speach. At night the country club was open to all the members and we had a cabaret and a disco. Afterwards everyone said it was the best wedding that they had ever been to. Well the first wedding cost an arm and a leg for my poor dad. The second wedding cost us about £900 in total, very low low costs, but it was the best day ever. Moral of all this rambling, the cost and the extravagance dont make the wedding. Its the love and happiness of all around and the people, family and friends who make the day. Having said that, I know that you are only young Sarah, and want the huge big wedding day. I hope that everything goes exactly as you plan. Best wishes love. |

I know what you mean Val - mine 4 years ago was my 2nd wedding, just family and friends. After the reception meal at the hotel we went back to our house and had a marquee in the garden. I really enjoyed the day and we got a cylinder to do our own helium balloons. The highlight of day was defo when we got everyone sucking helium in the marquee and singing......... what an alternative wedding. it all cost less than £1000. We also got a pinata.... not sure how to spell - a a crepe paper big donkey which you fill with sweets, hang it from the ceiling and take turns to hit it - blindfolded. The adults had more fun with this than the kids!! I made my own invites/bridesmaid dresses & silk flowers, then we went off on honeymoon and my new hubby cracked my ribs (but that's another story - and a very embarressing one to explain to the Dr how it happened - well we had to consumate didn't we!!).... plus I got an extra 3 weeks off work coz I could hardly move!!

oh Suzie, you brought back loads of memories from my wedding day. Like you said, we all had total fun and a brilliant night at the country club. All the members joined in our celebrations along with the guests and as we danced on the dance floor the female singer of the band asked Gordon if he was a 'true Scot' by showing her what he was wearing (or not wearing) under his kilt. If she had known Gordon a wee bit better she never would have asked that....... as he was only too willing to show her. Herrrrrr Hummm.
Like you, I made all the flowers for the day, and even the cake, which was so beautiful that I just did not want to cut into it. I have always been really into flower arranging and cake decorating but had never done a wedding cake before and really went to town with it. Everyone was amazed that I had made it myself. By todays standards, my first wedding would probably have cost about £15,000 and like I said the second cost less than £1,000. And the second one was definitely the best by far. |
