I wouldn't have a child of mine that age in the house when I had a client, I would get a babysitter.
If it was a friend it would be o.k. but it doesn't look very proffessional if yu have to keep attending to a toddler for toilet duties, juice, change video etc. Thats just my opinion. |

All my boys were about while I worked when they were little I tried to book when they had a nap or around nap time when I could put them down for quite time as they got older I tried to make the appts in the morning when ththeir shows were on the abc or nickjrn if you have fox otherwise have an organised activity ready drawing(so long as its not the walls haha) playdough was another thing mine loved even just their duplo lego. The key is to be organised before you start ie bums changed snacks ready activity organised.
It can be done I've been at home for 12years now started when I was preggie with no1 now got 3 boys last one just started school. I would also let any clients now you do have a little one and may have to deal with them sometimes its easy to get a sitter or economical.I always explained my situation to clients so they could decide if they wanted to deal with that also alot of my clients had little ones so they couldn't go to salons. Good luck. Sam |

sod it, if playstation keeps him quiet just do it. my nephew's been playing it since he was about that age and he's a wiz at it now. but it hasn't made him a dumb idiot, in fact he's the brightest in his class. it can't be that bad. the only bad thing is, make sure he goes to the loo every hour as i've heard that they get so engrossed they forget to go and it weakens the bladder. but other than that, as long as he's not playing Grand Theft Auto LA i shouldn't worry (scooby doo should do)

I do not have clients througout the day as I have a 2.5 year old at home so I can only work evenings when hubby is home to watch the kids or weekends when hubby is home to have the kids.
I would not feel as ease working while my kids were around and anyway it takes me 3 to 3.5 hours to do a set of nails I can not make my 2.5 year old play on his own for this long! I also feel that the kids should not be in the same room with the smell of the L&P to tell the truth I just could not work well enough with the kids around it is not the sort of job that you can keep stoping if they need something. This is just my views and the way I am happy to work, I am sure if you are happy working through the day with your little one the play station is ok for him. My little lad is 2.5 years as I said and very forward for his age as he has 4 older sisters but I know he would not sit playing on a play station for the legnth of time I take to do nails. Good luck whatever you do it is not easy with little kids trying to also fit in doing nails. Caz xxx |

My son turned 2 years yesterday and I fit my clients around him at the moment. He goes to nursary on Thursday and Fridays (I work in an office Thursday) and have clients here on Fridays, any evening and at the weekend so that my hubby can watch the boy when I have clients. I deter clients from bringing their own children so I can't really expect them to put up with mine .... at 2 years old he needs total care and I cannot leave him unattended for 10 seconds ... never mind 2 hours whilst I do a set of enhancements lol!!
I am hoping to increase my working day once he goes to nursary school then to full time school. |

I left my 10 year old & my 7 year old to fend for themselves while I did a set of nails once......ONCE!!!!
They had eaten all the snacks in the pantry, spilt drinks, were watching a DVD that was 18+ and had made 3 phone calls. As well as coming in to the nail room asking to go on the Net, over and over and over again while I glared at them and spoke very quietly in front of the client for them to go away etc. When the client left it was a diff story, you can only imagine what happened when I got my hands on them! Needless to say, this wont happen again. Don't put yourself through something that can really spoil your day. Since you are in Adelaide, I know there are some centres that do occassional care, for around $1.50-$2.00 for 2-3 hours on certain days through the week. Ring around and see if anything will suit you and good luck.

Thanks for everyones help.
My clients normally comes at night and my husband did not come till late. I only do at least 1 client per day. So maybe it ok to leave him at least couple hours. He is still on nappy, soon I will train him. I still dont like him playing the playstation, maybe once a week but not everyday. This week I am quite so he's got no playstation. |

my boys are a bit older although my first evening appointment is at 8 by then all 3 boys are upstairs...usually playing hide and seak in the bath
when people ring up for evening appointments i do tell them i have 3 boys at home if thats ok...and they are fine. when i first started 3 of my boys where at school leaving the little fella at home so when i was doing nails i gave him loads of nail tips(ones i never use) pop a mini apron on him and he painted them with his paints thinking he was working just like mummy. as reguards to the playstation you can get the tweeinies teletubbies etc and as long as you save it for when clients are at yours then it will occupy him and it wont do him any harm. |

Once I was using a drill on my Mum (Lucky not a client!) and my 4 year old son ran past and knocked it out of the wall by the socket and the drill went flying. Would never ever do it again with my kids around. Even if you dont drill, what if they spill the monomer or knock the primer. Its not safe for them or your client.

I actually tell my customers that I have 2 1/2 year old son and they're ok with it. My son wont touch the drill. He loves to play my tips so that will be a good idea Joanne, maybe I could get my old tips and let him paint them. My son has got bad allergies in nuts and eggs so I cant trust anyone to look after him. He also have an epipen in case he get breathing problems if he eats these foods. He's been in and out in the hospital when he was a baby that why I quit my job. I love what Im doing right now, maybe I have to plan what I do everyday. Thanks for the idea.
