Hiya,
Yup, know all about the nightmare of cutting extensions. you might have seen the my disaster pic from a couple of weeks ago... However, i've since got in touch with a hairdresser friend of mine who is experienced in cutting them and got advice.. (so i'll have somewhere to recommend my would-be clients to go for their cut) I went to get my extionsions trimmed and they cut them with scissors... ooops. I've since had them redone and layered the back and feathered round the front myself ( razor cut ) and i haven't ended up with the usual "glamour model mullet". I've already been to Ellisons a few months ago, looked into balmain (double hair and pre-bonded) Spoke to a lady at balmain who sent me the training dvd on applying, cutting and blending... not really interested in that method though. I want to learn the single strand fusion method first. I did a year and a half training in a hairdressing salon but couldn't afford to live on £70 a week and i don't really like the cutting part. you and the client often have a very different idea about what it's going to look like. I have been researching this (for a few months) and i'm not going to be unleashing myself on the public until i'm fully qualified and insured. And i'm not claiming to be a qualified hairdresser, i plan to offer the services of a hair extensionist. Might even keep it as a hobby like my nails, i only do about 4-5 clients on an average week, i just like learning new things. i'll be a legal account assistant for a long while yet. Sorry if i offended any hairdressers out there! i don't assume that this is something i can just "pick up" .... i know it's just going to be me and Chardonnay (my practice head) for a long while yet. |

We were taught to use a razor but the hairdresser's on the course said get thinning scissors.....to soften the edge of the natural hair so there wasn't a ledge?? Does that make sense? I felt out of my depth on this part tho and wish there was more time decicated to it .....hence the extra training I am doing this year!! If I don't launch my hair extension service this year tho I think I'll have to think about selling it. Eeek!!

when people aren't trained to cut the extensions its usually reflected in their prices so for someone to go to a salon have their extensions done and blended in and everything it might be cheaper for them to have the extensions done then go and have them blended in by a hairdresser thats y sum people may do it. However sayin that when a hairdresser doesn't kno the origin of the extension eg the make, company brand etc they may be reluctant to touch it

i wouldn't reccomended havin the two done seperatly but its whateva people budgets are innit? extensions aren't cheap, the ones i have is actual human european hair and being blonde its expensive.the price goes up the longer the length but also goes up the lighter ur hair is and mine is practically white lol salons have to take into account the money they'd lose while doin the extension cos they take hours so thats added on the hair price then the actual price for doing them its a dear do!

Yup, pre - bonded is where the hair has a small u shaped keratin tip on it.
you then use a heat connector on it. clamp it a few times to heat it and then roll between your fingers to bond. The double hair method uses weft flapped in two???? bit hard to explain... here's the link... http://www.doublehair.com/UK/index.html I want to learn the single fusion because you put the glue onyourself so you have more control for blending the colours, size of bond and amount of hair. But hey, i'm not a hairdresser........ Sorry minkus but it's not comparable to nails.. have you ever had extensions? I have, and quite a few friends that have... and not one of them had them cut at the same place that applied them. you want hair applied, you go to an extensionist, you want it cut you go to a hairdresser. Normally the one you have been going to for years. |
