I have worked in a very busy hair and beauty salon for the last 14 years and I think that we have more no shows or cancellations than normal when the weather is crumby. Who wants to come out in the cold wind or rain. Saturday is the busiest day for us. Is there a big shopping centre near your shop or anthing where people could be spending their saturdays?

hi louise
Hang in there, bad weather can affect business, or people not wanting to look good. All you need is to do 1 great set of nails on a great client and free advertising, word of mouth is the best way. If you are dead on a saturday do a promotion money off or something but don't advertise money down the drain, god I should now i will never advertise again word of mouth. Well done for doing so well during the week though.tranquil girl xxx |

I only work a half day on a saturday, so only do 3-4 clients, and i have regular ladies. I hardly ever have any no-show, in fact it doesnt happen with regualr clients, only new ones. I do however get the rare cancellation on a sat if people are not feeling well. My clients know if they cancel their appt with me, they will have to wait around 5-6 weeks to get another, so they dont do it often! You are a fairly new business Louise, so just keep at it girl, you will get grounded eventually, and have regular clients in on sats, as sometimes people who work all week, can only do a sat appt. Just keep up the good work, i personally dont think the weather would put off a regular client, so once you become more established, then im sure you will have a really busy saturday in your salon.

i;m not sure if the weather would stop me going and getting my nails done it could be everyone is waiting for pay day you do get quite periods and then weeks when you cant keep up you will find pattens like this happen.

I wouldnt judge your business on what others are doing, whether they are busy, as if people want their nails doing, they will come to you rain or shine! Just keep up the good work, continue to advertise, maybe do a leaflet drop? I can see where you are coming from, but last week here on the isle of wight it was absolutely pouring down with gale force winds! Not a soul outside, i mean who is crazy enough to go out in this weather? Well, i can say i didnt have any cancellations/no-shows for nails, so the only crazy souls to venture out in this arctic weather were my nail clients!

I'm not quite as busy in really bad weather and the sunbeds are always pretty quiet too. People always want a tan when the sun comes out. Pedicures are pretty quiet in the winter for me but last summer I was mad busy doing pedis. Glad to give my back a rest to be honest!

I used to work in a beautysalon before as a beauty therapist, and when it was very cold or very rainy, it was less customers. And also in the summer, if it was a day it was really hot, (since we dont have many days with sun and ht weather here).
So, yes, the weather affects! |

Hang in there Louise - this time of year is traditionally one of the worst for more or less ANY high street business!
Its to do with so many things...mainly the fact that Xmas was ages ago and Spring isn't really here yet, the weather is bad, people are still skint (having paid for Xmas, holidays etc) and moral is fairly low because of it. I think Easter will see an upturn in things - especially when people start shopping for new clothes for the new season etc...you could do worse than put your mind to some marketing around this years fashions in preparation? |

I have been really quiet the last couple of weeks too, just about covering my rent (if that!) I thought that Jan and Feb would be the worst months but they were reasonably busy.
Some weeks look busy to start with but then I may get a couple of cancellations etc and end up with no-one in at all . Saturdays suprisingly are always quiet for me, tend to be busier on the late nights in the week.
