Bikini waxing when pregnant?! - 25-04-06, 10:23 AM

Hiya,

I'm purely a nail tech and after any info you waxing geeks may have. I'm 21 weeks pregnant and regularly go to my local salon for waxing. She told me she can no longer give me bikini waxes as it might shock the baby or I might get an infection!! I will get more of an infection if my husband does it for me lol.

Is this because of insurance?

Other salons have said they will do it. I spoke to my midwife and she said that as long as nothing is going 'in' me so to speak there should not be a problem. There is no way I'm going to be like Sherwood forest down there when I give birth! Does any one else wax pregnant women or is it a general no no?

Thanks,
Sam xx

Perhaps the girl was a bit worried 'just in case' . But I have always done bikini waxing on pregnant clients...the only problem is its a bit awkward cos of the bump and the client cant see it... but other than that theres no prob about waxing - unless things have changed since I was at college!!

Most pregnant woman have waxing just before they're due to deliver so that they look good for the hospital. Maybe she's a bit nervous.

I spoke to Babtac and it's all insured. She just said to me she'll 'tidy me up' but nothing more! Shame - I was thinking of a playboy bunny with glitter.haha.

Perhaps the mild shock of the strip being pulled off could increase the chances of inducing labour - but then if your used to having wax done then this wont be a 'shock'...but I remember being told not to wax in the early stages of pregnancy - incase the client co-incidently had a miscarrieage and the likelyhood would be she could blame the waxing as the cause (even though it wouldnt actually cause a miscarriage)

Having been pregnant twice I know you need to keep it in check because there is extra growth should we say, must be all the hormones and stuff.

This is true for a lot of treatments, if they were to have a miscarriage and the last thing they had done was a salon treatment, then it would be easy to try and but the blame on the treatment when chances are it had nothing to do with it.

I was waxed down below a week before I was due with my last baby, and there were no probs. All I can say is that it was a hell of a lot more painful than usual (it made me call the poor lady doing it a very rude name).

When I did my course at College we were told that it was fine, and my best friend who did the course with me was heavily pregnant at the time.

I did her bikini all the time (including a bit of a brazilian) and never had any problems. As mentioned, it was a little bit awkward because of the big bump that was in the way, but other than that.

The only thing my friend did say was that her skin was a bit more sensitive than normal, but she never went into labour and her baby was born perfectly healthy.

I Sammie, there is absolutely no reason why you cant have a bikini wax.I currently have 3 clients who are all about to give birth and they are still coming in every 3 to 4 weeks for their waxing. The only awkward thing is for them to get on and off the couch and also one has bad sciatica so she does have to move around whilst having her wax. This sounds like a general case of a misunderstanding on the therapists part of the conra-indications.I know clients like to stick with their regular therapist but I would find someone else a bit more competent

OOUCh i remember getting waxed when i was pregnat the worse pain i have ever felt and i bled afterwards as well. something to do with more blood in the area making it more sensitive. But that was me doesnt mean to say you will be the same.

I have had many clients (past and present) that come for full leg and brazilian waxing right up until their due date. I think the only thing is that we are more sensitive to heat and pain when we are pregnant... but no other reasons why you couldn't get waxed.
