i had the same worry last year with my kitten, she had her op but wouldnt eat drink or wee!! i rang the vet as i was worried but he said it was normal as she was probably still feeling groggy from the drugs and that she was prob still p***ed off with me for putting her through it

Glad to hear you heard from the vet.
And in case you have any doubts, yes, it is VERY normal for this to happen. Just like it does with people Pain killers and all the other stuff that she got pumped with during surgery will cause constipation (just as codeine does to people) I dont know if your vet said anything, but one thing I have learned with all the animals I have had over the years: you'll want to keep her pain meds down to the absolute minimum. This is because for obvious reasons, they don't know they need to 'relax' and if they feel no pain, they'll push themselves too far and hurt themselves. My dog is stupid that way. Of course we dont want them uncomfortable BUT better a tad uncomfortable as opposed to bouncing around cause the pain meds are just so darn good they think they're fine. If she's on pain meds, try to stretch them out for longer periods in between doses or cut them in half. Good luck and smoochies to your kitty. |

She'll soon be back to normal. When my female cat (Valleta) was done she started to chew at her stitches after 3-4 days. She had to be re-clipped and wear one of those funny lampshade collars. We shut her in the downstairs wc as in open space she was sumersaulting to try and get the collar off!

I guess they don't have it in the uk?
When one of my dog's was fixed, they gave me a salve/ointment that was to be put on her wound a few times a day. It had two purposes: as an antibiotic ointment and the other purpose was to keep her from licking or nibbing as it apparently had a VERY VILE taste to it. Could you not ask a vet about that? Good luck and
