i missed this to be honest
but i think the use of steroids under these circumstances is appaling, i think actually a soap (tv) is well due covering this...i remember mick in brookie going off on one due to steroid useage years ago...now i know soaps are fiction but lets face it "kids"are more likley to watch them that a documentry and if mick from brookside stood out to me all them years ago ,thers no reason why a soap cant drum in into kids now ! |

I saw it G
and I was disgusted by it. I agree with you - the programme did show you the bad side, but it also 'glorified' it too. For all geeks that didnt see it - you had to have seen it to appreciate how shocking it was, it was awful. I totally disagree with taking steriods for body building, and dealing in it too. It is as bad as dealing in hard drugs. I really dont think it should have been shown to be honest - it really could have put ideas in young lads heads, wanting to be 'the big man' etc. The main person in the documentry was talking about it as if it was great, how much trouble he got into because of it, how his girlfriend had to shoot someone who was going to kill him, to save HIS life, and then how his girlfriend died from a drugs overdose. How he made his 'millions' and lost them, how he spent time in prison etc etc. It really could have put ideas in young lads heads. |

There's always someone that will say "I'm smarter than he/she and I won't screw up or get caught blah blah blah" Although I love that information is so freely available today, I think children are given far too much access to it; and they grow up too 'aware', too fast without the maturity necessary to handle the information. Heck, most adults can't handle the info. How can we expect kids to do the same? |

Hi Glynnis,i didn't watch the program you are refering to,but i am an avid watcher of the bill, who are also doing a story on this,to be honest i hope they are going to turn it into a downward slope for the guy who is doing it and not glorify it in anyway. When Lee played rugby, some of the players were quite small, but good .Three of them ended up an steroids, none of them are still with their partners or children. As with all drugs it is very sad when it grips you to the extent where you have no sense of reality. I hope one day,we can stop people getting involved with drugs,i don't know how though. I hope your son is recovered, and things are back to normal for you.

I didn't see it, but don't approve of steroid use in this way. My hubby has had problems with staff members of his abusing these things.
If the programme seemed to be glorifing steroid use, can you not put a complaint in to the TV ombudsman, (forgotten their name). They take complaints like this very seriously. |

I saw it, and whilst I agree that some aspects of the programme were glorified, they did give the other side, where they made the viewer aware of the side effects and long term damage it would cause to the body.
I do agree however that I wouldn't want my sons watching this when they were of a body conscious age, but then again we do always have the parental control options on the sky box. It did make me go ewwwwwwwwwww at his arms though, he thought they looked nice??? pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease! |
