the older therapist -
26-10-06, 09:43 PM
As i get older, and no im not that old at 43 ,i wonder whether there is ever a time to give up treating people are there any really old therapists out there do you think clients would appreciate having an older therapist or nail technician thinking they are more experienced or be put off that they may not be up to date

I cant see that myself, but I am an older therapist as well (39 in 2 weeks).
I think it is all down to how confident you are with your treatments and also communicating to the clients how you are constantly updating your skills. |

I'd never thought about this til you mentioned it but prior to my training I always prefered an older tech doing my nails, not a conscious thing but looking back now I definitely felt in safer hands and felt more at ease. (not to say younger geeks aren't out there doing a fab job as well!)

Oh please don't even think along those lines !!!!!
At 51 I don't consider myself too old at all and will keep going as long as I enjoy it . My training is always kept bang up to date and all of my clients are quite happy with having an 'older' therapist Never say die. Karen xxx |

Come on girls, you are as young as you are at heart, I think I must be the oldest trainee on here ok I have done my NVQ level 2 but that is nowhere near enough training for me, I finally plucked up courage just over 12 months ago to make the best career change ever. I have plenty more training to do and I will do it and hopefully I will turn out to be a fantastic nail tech, I think I will be learning till Im 90 but I love every minute of it. I just wish I had plucked up the courage to change paths years and years and years ago.

To avoid being thought of as not up to date, keep your training certificates on display & uniform uptodate. I think image is a big part of it, when i trained we had these awful uniforms with great big fake gold buttons & shoulder pads which look dated & even my clients at college commented that they'd never seen them in salons before !! |

The only older Therapist I would avoid..is the one who trained in Nineteen Canteen and has never done another course since!!!...with an attitude that ...This is the way I have always done it, so why change!!.....
Updating your skills is paramount in this Industry...not how old you are!! |
