ACE grants, Joe Francis Scholarship, some private schools offer scholarships or payment plans and others may have financial aid available if their program meets federal requirements. Try these links

American Association of Cosmetology School | About Us
National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts & Sciences

they should have links to reliable schools with sound practices, information on your state requirements and possible grant or financial aid that could be available.

Typically because of the short nature of a nails only course the federal government won't give loans or grants, it is up to the individual schools. HTH

Thats the issue I have, the school I want to go to doesn't currently have a nail instructor (actually none of the schools in my area do!) but they said that they don't accept student loans, which I currently have acess to. They want $3,195 for just the nail course and they don't do a payment plan so thats why I was wondering about other options. Thanks for the info.

Well just checked both these sites and I am no where near any of these. I noticed that they use the term accredited, does that mean that if I go to a school that isn't on the list my certificate doesn't count?

No, the difference is in the standard of education. In an accredited school the instructors must maintain their license to stricter standards such as: 24 contact hours of continuing education, planned our cirriculums, lesson plans that meet federal guidlines and they are subjected to random and scheduled on site evaluations to ensure they are doing what they say they will. The contact hours must be in hands on learning or higher education through a college taking classes on teaching adults to keep up with the newer methods of teaching.

There is nothing wrong with a school that is not accredited, but you may want to really check out the program, visit with graduates, visit salons who have hired graduates and sit in the school to "feel" the atmosphere. Pay close attention to how the instructors interact, see how long it takes for a student to get help, see how many instructors are working the floor and how willing they are to help.

Go to our website and click on the pivot point link, their headquarters are in Illinois and while they do not have a nail cirriculum, they may have useful references to good schools in your area.

There is a school in my area that is pivot point but they don't currently have any nail instructors. I friend of mine went there and she took a whole cosmotology course and she said they didn't do much for nails. How can they be teaching a full cosmotology course and not have a nail instructor?
