Sorry to hear of your dilemma hun,
i can understand why they want you in even if no one is booked but i would tell them that i wanted x amount per hour for the time that you will be sat around waiting and then when you do get some one in you want the rate that was agreed In the mean time it sounds like you may be as well looking for another job that is more suitable to what you want to do good luck with it all

Hi there,
My advice would be to get outa there! I was in the same situation recently and the owner wanted £20 a day rent, when there were no clients. One week I earned absolutely zilch after i paid my rent and I decided to quit and use my money to run a home salon. Needless to say, got myself some cards, flyers, a website up and running and a month later I have quite a few new clients, word spreads quick if you are good and believe in yourself. Geeg had some good wording for flyers,, take a look at the thread and hope this will help. |

Thanks hun. I couldnt ask for an hourly rate as this is how all the other therepists get paid. Someone was telling me they used to pay hourly but recently changed the system to this. then loads of people left! What a suprise! |

Yeah your right! I just hate having to tell them im leaving but i gotta do it. Its a shame so many of us seem to get in this sort of situation. Thats what really gets me down about this industry. I know im good at what i do but just wanted to give it a break for a bit. maybe i'll take a look at those flyers, might persuade me to go alone again! |

Having said that, if you were self employed and renting space in the salon you wouldn't be in any better position than you are now and you'd have rent to pay when you didn't have any clients, although it would also mean that you were also in control of your own advertising. To let potential clients know that you're available you need to be seen in the salon, only going in when there are clients booked won't help either the salon or you. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. |
