Hi
I have purchased a faradic machine for toning but need a few steps in getting going I am level 2 beauty therapy trained and also qualified in nail extensions but I had gone to local inch loss clinic to tone up and found it expensive so hence I bought the machine. I only bought it for personal use but unsure if I need conductive gel etc on the pads, thanks for your reply xx

most faradic machines do not need a conductive gel, to my knowledge.the pads must be applied directly on the muscle (normally the origin and insertion), so basic muscle knowledge is needed, unless you have a really clear book. if they are not placed correctly, you will not contract the muscle, or you will do so ineffectively. about 20/30 mins is plenties, as this will not tire the muscle excessively. you need to do this 2 pref 3 times a week, with 24hrs gap mimimum inbetween (abit like going to the gym every other day is best). There is normally an intensity knob, which controls the output. start off low/med and work your way up, unless your really toned. HTHs

Hi eager beaver

thanks for your help I know about starting off low etc was just a bit confused re the gel as when I got the treatment in the salon they used wet pads , left me really confused as I thought don't mix electrics & water then again suppose they have to wash the pads between clients , anyway your info is much appreciated thanks again

They use wet pads to help conduct the electric current as some people's skin does not conduct as effectively. It's safe if you know what you're doing. The conductive gel does the same thing. It depends what machine you have. What does it say in your instruction manual?

Hi Rouge

The machine is a Techspa B333-5, I bought it second hand and it had no instructions so I have contacted manufacturer to see if they can help. When I initially got treatment the pads were placed inside damp/wet sponges I am all clued up on where to place pads and contra-indications etc but the gel/wet sponge thingy was confusing me, I basically wanted to know if anyone on here had same similar machine and could advise.

Thanks Ang x

I would have thought a wet gel covered "sponge" would be placed over the pads and used for galvanic body treatments (e.g anti cellulite) and that you would just need a conductive gel or some salt water for the faradic, placed directly on the pads, without this it would be quite uncomfortable and the electrical impulse may become focused in one place rather than spread evenly over the pad. As you brought it second hand I would get it checked by an electrician before use.

If this is a professional machine there is the possibility that it can be turned up very high and cause damage to the muscles if not used properly, you need to follow any instructions the manufacturer can give you and not use it until you have proper instruction. When I was trained with this kind of machine it took a while to get it right on someone else, let alone trying it out on myself! You need to have the muscles relaxed when you use the machine so it is actually better to have someone do it for you, then you can lie down and relax.

These machines when used properly are great.

If they used wet sponges over the pads this is a different treatment to faradic, this is galvanic which helps to get rid of cellulite.
hope this helps

I used to damp my pads with saline solution - but I agree it is best to check with the manufacturer before using.
