I have to go to hospital tomorrow to have a gastroscopy/endoscopy (or sword swallowing at it is known in my house at the mo).

I am absolutely wetting my pants at the thought of it. Although I have asked to be sedated (wimp) the hospital have said that I will still be aware of what is going on.

Has anybody else had one and if so what was it like.



I have told the nurse at the unit I will be wearing my trainers in case I feel the need to leg it.

I haven't had this done, but I did have a cataract removed under sedation and I really don't remember anything ... or for the next week for that matter it was so effective!!!! Hope it all goes well for you hun

OMG you brave thing. Two things I always said I would never allow to be done to me were eye things without first clubbing me to death and a gastroscopy.

I can watch any amount of gory operations on tv but when it comes to eyes I am a little squeamish.

That's why I had the sedation, I don't remember a thing!!

Had the other one done a few years later and they were having none if the sedation milarcky, local anaesthetic and that was it! All these old dears were walking into the operating room and walking out again after it was done! Me I walked in and was wheel chaired out afterwards as I felt a bit queezy !! Oh and during the second op I got sick of listening to the surgeon going on about his game of golf the day before, I just wanted to say WILL YOU CONCENTRATE ON WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!

(BTW I was hit in the eye with a hockey stick aged 12 which caused the first one, they reckon the other eye then came out in sympathy! I think I was at least half the age of all the other patients!)

So it's sedation for me and a whole bottle of vodka If it were allowed, I would.

have the vodka after ,no experience of this for me just wanting to wish you well

I have no experience of this but if i were in your shoes i would be glad they were inserting the camerea at that end and not the other,

I have had both ends done, they do give you 'a little something' to relax you. I don't remember anything at all about either occasion.

you are one brave lady, i would have to be asleep before they would be able to get a camera near my bum

My mum had this and it wasn't the most pleasant experience but she said it wasn't too bad

I've had this done....they did give me a little something to relax me though......but I honestly don't remember a thing.......the only thing was throat was a bit sore .....kinda like when a cold is coming on.....was better the next day.....
