I don't really want to know what band you're in.... BUT... I used this site and managed to get my MIL's reduced from a band C to a band B - plus she gets a refund back to 1993.

She is absolutely delighted, as she obviously has less to pay each month now and the refund is on its way

It is really easy, you just go to Valuation Office Agency - homepage and type in your post code and road name... and check out all your neighbours... if houses identical to you are in a lower band..then you ring your local Valuation Office and complain... it takes 8 weeks.

They say you wont hear from them in the 8 weeks... but my MIL got a lovely letter much sooner!!

You just follow the steps to find out how much your house was valued in 1991 and the categories are given.

I have just checked ours out and was getting confused as we have gone up a band two years ago, it really is not fair as the valuation date in Wales is taken on 1st April 2003 not like English homes where a valuation taken in 1991!

Your home shouldn't have gone up unless you had only just moved into it... I was told that Bands can only go UP for the next person who moves in... if an extension has been built or similar.

Perhaps in Wales Laws are different.

Check it out though, just ring your valuation office and say you have reason to believe you're in the wrong band... they'll do it for you.

My Aunt is in Band G and paying shedloads of money for her rates, yet she is only on a pension.... I checked it out for her and it looks like she should be in Band E or F.... BUT houses far bigger than hers are in an F band. It is crazy how it is worked out.... just depends on which valuation officer you got that day... especially with modern properties!

WELL im due to move in to my new home in a week or so and have just checked and all the street is band C except for me and another house that are band D so hows that work out????????????????????

Ps it's band A £900 per yr so i'd be chuffed to get it reduced

It varies hun. My mum is the next village along we are both band A but mine is £130 more a year,apparently because we have more amenities etc hth's x

I am not so sure about his.

I was on the understanding that England was about to undergo a restructure of its bands. I am not sure if I have worded that correctly but I think that the Government are re-valuing all the houses and adjusting the bands accordingly.
