I thought I would share this as I was rather surprised today.

As I am soon to be coming to the end of my training, more to come in July, I decided to test the waters with the local council, regarding there policy on home workers, as that's what I intend to do.

I was expecting a lot of forms and red tape, but after telling the lady on the end of the phone what I intended, she just said I didn't need planning permission, and that it would be no problem at all as there wouldn't be people queuing up waiting. And if there were she had my number cause she was looking for a good tech

Has everyone else had such an easy time of it. I must say I was rather gobsmacked

Some councils can be very funny but I think its because the person you are talking to doesn't understand what you are doing, I'm in a council property and thought that might give me a problem but the only thing they wanted to know was how many cars would be out side at any one time and I said 1 and they said thats fine then, don't forget to register with the tax office within 3 months of the start of trading

Nope, I got told I had to submit a planning application because it would change the environment of the area, even though I was only going to work school hours so not time for loads of appointments.

The application is £249 and their is no guarantee it would be passed.
I had to supply a map of my area marking my car park space and a detailed drawing of my front room where I was setting up in case I expanded into other rooms, I live in a 2 bed house with 2 kids, so where am I going to expand into the downstairs loo?!?
