If you are wanting lots of traffic to your website, you are best off calling it something like 'PHOENIX Photography' as already suggested.
Your actual trading/business name could be something entirely different eg your business name could be Sarah Walker Photography with your web address phoenix photography. The reason for that is that the majority of potential clients looking for a photographer in Pheonix, won't know who you are, they are just looking for a photographer in Phoenix. There's no reason why you can't register more than 1 web domain, and have then pointing to your main web address. I've just have a quick search & sarah-walker-photography.com is available, phoenix-photography.com isn't. Perhaps your particular area of Phoenix could be used within the domain name? |

Yes, phoenixphotography.com, arizonaphotography.com, phoenixphoto, arizonaphoto, and every variation of the above are taken. This is a challenging process.
But yes, one of those names would have been a gold mine because most people do search under the place where they live, which would bring up my name first. I do want to stay away from weird funky spellings because no one would ever remember it, or saying it on the phone would involve spelling it out every time. HOWEVER...I recently discovered that my name, sarahwalkerphoto.com is available. So I suppose my business name could be "Sarah Walker Photography" with sarahwalkerphoto.com as my web address...but...is that kinda lame? Would all of you be more attracted to a person's name or something like the above? |

Oh yeah I posted a poll in one of my local forums which is mainly men.
Overwhelmingly 50% of voters chose "Desert Glow Photography" with the rest mostly choosing "sunset canyon". No one chose "rhapsody" or "white strobe yet. So far about 30 voters. I am glad I did this! It is really interesting to see what people think! |

I like Sunset Canyon Photography, because I think that would make me look, rather than your name, it sounds different, but that is just my opinion, it is entirely up to you.
Just to add I went to Arizona a few years back and visited the Grand Canyon and I felt, even though I knew I was standing there looking at at it, it just looked like a photograph if you know what I mean, absolutely stunning, perhaps that has influenced my choice. |

Yes, this is red rock canyon country. I also went to england once! I was a teen and flew over to london by myself. I am a crazy girl! I'll never forget getting off the plane, going to meet the person I had arranged to stay with. I went to get in the car, and was standing on the driver's side! (forgot that the sides are switched.) He said "Whats this? Do you plan to drive?" We both laughed. The entire time I felt stange being on the driver's side with no steering wheel!!
I stayed a week and had the time of my life. Oh my goodness, england and arizona are soooo different. Everything there seems minature...tiny streets, tiny bottles of milk, tiny grocery stores, tiny refridgerators! Oh and yes the tiny cars. It was so overwhelmingly green too! It was beautiful to my eyes, which are accostomed to the desert, palm trees, and rocky landscapes. Around here it truly is wide open spaces and most roads are 6 lanes wide and perfectly straight! You guys have tiny, curvy roads everywhere...what a crazy way to get around! Anyway back to my photography name...any other suggestions? The guys on the other forum are overwhelmingly voting for "desert glow". |
