It is probably really easy to fix, but I can't figure out how to do it . It happens to me quite frequently too, but I am now going to learn.

I have just been on a major cosmetics house website looking at products, but I can't view the pictures of the products. All that appears is a rectangular box with a small square box in the top left corner with a red x in it.

How do I open the image? Pretty Please.

Generally this means that the picture is not on the server. It could be a problem with the site your are viewing and would be worth dropping them an email to let them know.

It could also be some of the settings on your PC that wont let you view some pictures for example.

Find someone else you know with a computer and ask them to look and see if they can view the pictures, then you will know whether it is the sites problem or your problem.
