In fact I'd rather get it now just in case a more virulant strain develops later in the year, which scientists think could happen. Then at least I'd have resistance to it. |

Hi All,
We have had H1N1 here in New Zealand since April. Whilst I agree the panic is uncalled for, I would tell you to prepare yourselves because it seems to be affecting children up to age 20 worse than anyone else. All three of my kids have had it and it really knocked them for six. These are kids that usually do no get sick much so it was quite the surprise. My girls were home for two weeks! People who have underlying conditions have to be careful. Heart/Diabetes/Asthma. If you or your kids have issues like that and get sick, def let your GP know cos they may just give you an antiviral med to keep it from getting too severe. Otherwise standard protocol applies, proper handwashing, covering mouth/nose when coughing/sneezing, liquids, paracetemol. I didn't get it (surprise) but then again I take a multivitamin and additional C and Zinc. That seemed to keep me from getting it (and when I say the only one who didn't get it, I mean in my family of five and in my group of mates....everyone got it in some form or another - supposedly Wellington NZ has the most cases of it in the world right now). No need to panic, just be aware that it is a bit more nasty than the average flu and just take care. :-) |

![]() Although I agree with the washing of hands and stuff, I just find it a waste of time because not everyone will do it. You touch things without realising. Germs are everywhere as well as in the air. Your hands would be red raw from the constant washing I really think if you are going to get it then you will. There's no point in worrying until and if that time comes. I understand that everyone is not as 'oh well' about it as me but really wish everyone would stop worrying xxx |

Yes as I said I am fit and healthy but I treat the elderly, the disabled and people who need trearments at home because they cant get out. For example the lady I treated today has resparitary problems and has had a collapsed lung. I just wanted to know what others would do thats all.

I have to say I am a little concerned, not panicking! Because those who have died in this country the medical pro's have said that they have all had underlying medical conditions but they haven't said what they are. Now if it were something like cancer surely they would have said so, but they aren't. So what if those underlying conditions were something as common as asthma! That is what worries me, and the lack of information about it.

As long as you are fit and healthy at the moment then i see no need to worry otherwise you will be worrying for the next however many months.
If you do get symptoms then you should probably be tested quite quickly and then those people who you have visited who may be at serious risk if they got flu because of their illnesses could maybe then be prescribed an antiviral. We have it in our town too a school has been closed this week and my husband is up and down to London everyday by train and tube so unless we all lock ourselves in the house and don't see anyone there isnt much point worrying. |

Nows the best time to catch swine flu! I am hoping I get it! If you get it while its mild then you become immune to it, which if it gets stronger and resiliant towards any drugs then its far worse!
The only people so far ~ as far as I am aware who died from swine flu had other more serious underlying conditions. If you don't want it, you could wear a mask at work and ensure you sterilese your hands before and after every client. |
