I have 2 large moles on my face that I want vamooshing! Ive heard you can have them lasered off so the scarring is minimal. Could anyone advise on where is the best place to go for this? and do these mole removing people also test it to make sure its not cancerous or anything?

IMO, the best thing is to ask your GP for a referral to a consultant dermatologist.

Mole removal is a painless procedure which takes a matter of minutes. Scarring is usually minimal.

As a matter of course, all skin excisions are sent for histology reports.

When you say a consultant dermatologist ...is that likely to be done through the NHS?
I didnt want to go through the NHS as ive heard alot of people say they were left with a scar and as its on my face...and one is in quite an awkward place (on the bridge of my nose!) so Im worried about scarring really! anywhere else on my body wouldnt bother me about scars but as its my face...it does!

I knew someone once who had had one lasered off on her face and you couldnt even tell there had been anything there at all...cant remember where she went though...somewhere in nottingham I think!

I dont think they will remove them for you on the NHS unless there is something wrong with them. I have had six moles removed from my face but it was done by a plastic surgeon and you can not see anything unless you look really closely and I point them out.

I think the scarring will depend on a few factors, such as the size of the mole, etc, but as it is on your face I would recommend going to see a pastic surgeon.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about laser removal but as you quite rightly say, the mole is on your face and so whether it's an NHS referral or a private referral, it's important to make the correct choice and an informed decision based on the information you receive.

I would go to your GP first of all and get their advice & see if you can get a referral to a dermatologist. If you are unable to/don't want to have the actual procedure on the NHS the dermatologost you see should be able to give you professional advice as to the most appropriate procedure and may be able to recommend a clinic/surgeon.

i had one on my back that was causing no trouble whatsoever!! my doctor referred me to a dermatoligist who removed it for me no questions asked then sent me a report of whether it was cancerous or not,
on the nhs!!
they will definatly remove them off your face just say you catch them all the time or something and they bleed!!! worth a little white lie eh??
after all we all pay taxes!!! get your bloody money's worth!!
ps. my scar is bearly visible!!!!!!!!

My friend had hers removed by a cosmetic surgeon at a private hospital and he invited me in to watch.

He numbed the area, sliced the moles off at the surface and then froze the area with dry ice to make sure they don't grow back. It didn't hurt her and you'd never think there had been anything there. Amazing!

They were sent off to be checked and they were fine. xx

I have had 2 benign moles removed one when I was 17 on my leg And unfortunatly it did leave a massive scar I had to have 27 stiches in it 13 on the top and the other 14 inside my leg because it was so deep.
The second one was on my arm and again that one has left a small scar. these were done through the nhs.
If you want them doing on your face most nhs wont just remove them if there is nothing wrong due the the possible scarring.
I would however speak to your gp and see what he can recomend ie sending you to see a plastics specialist.

I would echo the advice of the last 2 posts go to a plastic surgeon rather than a dermatologist. I had 2 removed from my face by a plastic surgeon and you cannot tell where they were unless I told anyone. The mole I had removed from my arm by an NHS dermatologist caused unsightly scarring - would not go to one again.
