Hi All

I am new to forums so trust I am asking in the right place.

Having recently bought a hair & beauty salon I would like some information on how much to charge for a Nail Technician on a sel-employed basis. I have read some of the issues already raised on here but briefly we are opening in an out of town area in Ashford, Kent I have already had applicants wanting to be self-employed and interviewing tomorrow.

What do you feel is the best way forward
ented space and at what price or
commission and at what level.
At first they would need to supply their own materials but I would be providing, heat, tea & coffee, taking bookings, marketing, advertising and anything else associated with their business apart from actually doing the nail tech bits and bobs. Understand this is a new salon and we certainly want the right staff but I am struggling on how to compromise effectively

I was told a fee for the space then commission on top to be agreed, this seems a bit greedy to me but was told the rental is for the space they use and the commission is for the other bits and bobs that I would do.

Any help greatly appreciated

Hi

I would have thought it was an either/or not both !!! If the nail tech is providing all her own equipment then I beleive that 60/40 split is the max (60% of takings to the technician) or charge a rent per day. What the rent should be should be based on the space available, the services you are providing, and whether there is already a client base.

If you don't have a current client base I would offer the tech a commission split and advise what the daily rental would be once the business is more established and they can switch to this if they want to.

Please note that when I 'rented a table' in a salon I only had to give the owner 20%.
