Hi everyone,

My daughter is on her 2nd set of extensions (put in by me) she has had them in about 5 weeks but this time she is losing loads and the bonds have slipped right down.

The hair is a different brand from the first lot so I wondered at first if the glue was not as good but I am starting to think it might be the shampoo & conditioner. It bought her the Self Absorbed from the Tigi Bed Head range as I was told this was good for extensions but I I wonder if it is actually breaking the bonds.

Am a bit worried as I have advised other clients that this is good shampoo & conditioner. Anyway I have contacted everyone and asked them to not to use it for the moment and I'm going to get some S&C formulated for hair ext.

Has anyone got any thoughts on whether it is the TIGI stuff thats causing problems? (I should say though it is lovely shampoo & conditioner, I don't wish to cast aspersions on Tigi products)

I used Tigi with my last lot and they became a bit matted....I feel that it dried mine out...

I use the goldwell kerasilk evertime after every wash, this seems to re-coat them and keep them nice....

Shampoo...... I use matrix on my own hair but I use Pantene on the extensions.....Seems to be working so far HTH's xx

I am addressing you some of the situations which can lead to a disaster.

Every hair extension method out there today has potential to cause problems. Serious hair damage and breakage are problems most are concerned with. Application and removal procedures are the cause of many problems. This is why it is imperative that you are comfortable with your stylists hair extension experience. Below are some problems that can surface with wearing hair extensions. 1. Allergic reactions. Some hair extension methods use nickel, metal type products or chemical adhesive materials that can cause allergic reactions.
2. Hair extensions fall out. Sometimes if you hair is excessively oily, certain methods of hair extensions will not stay in place. The extra oil causes them to slip right off.
3. Hair extensions fall out along with the natural hair. If the natural hair is not strong enough to hold the hair extensions, the extensions can fall out and pull the natural hair out with it.

I tried Self absorbed a while back and it did nothing for my extensions. (Not derogartory to Tigi - they just aren't designed for that purpose. I always use it if i'm having a break from them though! )

Is she putting the conditioner on the bonds? she should only be conditioning from the nape of the neck down and then stroke the excess left on the hands throught the hair.

I wouldn't recommend TIGI for extensions. If you are doing a starter pack mine has Clynol moisturising shampoo and conditioner and moisture dream spray in conditioner. I tested these on 3 different hair manufacturers over 6 months.... Or Cinderella pack.

Non salon brands - herbal Essences - the blue one is fine and also sunsilk peach coloured repairing one.

Is she using any other products? I had one client who kept having slipping and shedding and in the end i found out she'd been using Shine spray.

Thanks for replies. I don't think she uses anything other than hairspray, I bought her some balmain serum but I don't think she uses it. Being a teenager she does wash her hair a lot LOL, she also blow drys it - could the heat be a problem? She knows not to heat the bonds though. I don't think her hair is too oily as she didn't have this problem with the first set of extensions she had in- the only difference is that she was using Aussie shampoo & cond then rather than Tigi.

The problem might be nothing to do with the shampoo, I'm just worried that I might be giving customers the wrong advice.

Apologies - I wasan't very clear then - when i said it did nothing for my extensions - what i meant was It was no good for them. frizzy, fluffy etc.
I would not advise client to use it.

Thanks I will look for the other thread. I have ordered some products specifically for extensions and am going to use these instead. A bit of a shame as I love Tigi products usually.

It's always best to use the shampoo that goes with the hair or shampoo that is made by an extension company. They invest a lot of money into research the best formulas for extended hair.
I am a retailer of Tigi, however, I would not recommend it for ext. You can guarantee Tigi do not put the research in, they are a quick turn over, fashion brand. Don't get me wrong the shampoos are great IF you have virgin, good condition, average hair. Deviate from that and they don't tend to be successful.

I usse resin bond ext system and its important that they use a low or non protein shampoo and cond as the protein eats into the bonds and causes them to degrade. I rec Redken smoothdown sh and cond for my clients as its high moisture but non protein.

Hi ya i use Pantene on my extensions and have done for some time i also find Pantene good and works well with me(my extensions is a weave in)

Hi Kim, I'm glad you've found something that works for you.
However, Pantene contains huge amounts of silicone which is a big no-no for fusion. Cheaper weaves are usually coated anyway so woundn't make a huge amount of difference.
