Am I being unreasonable!? - 25-03-12, 09:23 PM

Hi geeks
Slightly confused tonight and wonder if my prices are too high :/

Had a text off someone asking if I could fit her in for her hair tomorrow. I asked what she wanted done and she replied bleach roots and reapply crazy colour. I was asked How much will it be.I said £30.00 with a blow dry and £35.00 with cut and blow. Is that too expensive as she text back she couldn't afford that sorry :/.
I feel my prices are reasonable for where I live and I take into consideration time, travel and product usage. Does anyone think my price is high !?
Thanks. X

I think they are too low.

I want a Ferrari but can't afford one, don't mean to say they are gonna lower their prices or sit fretting that their cars are not affordable for all.

She has thru pence to spend and wants the world. Forget her.

I would charge at least £50! Sorry but how can she not afford that? I doubt she will get it cheaper else where. I hate it when clients say to you "oh at so and so or with so and so I can get that for £3.74 cheaper" go to them then you are not worth my time and energy lol.

Thanks for replying I feel better now. I always sit worrying they're to high I know I give a professional service and I'm always proud of my work. I was lacking confidence when I got back into hairdressing in January so I offered all colours with a cut and blow for £25 I was so busy with full head foil highlights. But since February my price for full head highlights cut and blow is £40 iv been really quiet had a few clients but noone seems to understand it costs about £80 for that service in salons near me if not more! Least I know I'm not charging too much xx

Never lower your standards for anyone or any other competitive price. You worked hard, trained for a few years, sweat your bum off being a junior so why shouldn’t you charge prices that reflect your work? Personally I think your prices are cheap, (that sounds so rude sorry) and by the sounds of it, you could do with putting them up a tad. I agree with the girl who commented about ''well its blah blah cheaper if I go here'' well let them go there then, and they will come running back when it’s a mess.

I do cheaper prices for regular clients who have been with me 1 year, and i also send flowers on their birthdays, now I don’t see a problem with prices lowered for friends/family and regulars but new clients should pay the full price, as you have never dealt with the hair before, and to be honest it really pee's me off when they moan about not being able to afford it, basically trying to guilt trip you into lowering your prices, I would of replied to your client with ''Oh I’m sorry to hear that, thank you for your interest and best of luck with your hair''

I charge more than that for the exact same service. You're not unreasonable at all. I sometimes get people saying that, hoping I'll lower the price, but my prices are low compared to many places, and people have to realise that this is our living, and we need to actually make some money from it.

I think it's a bit low hun, I have a £30 charge for roots, including blowdry only, then I have the "extremes" that start at £50, that includes lightening and re colouring with bright colours, so no I don't think u over charged at all. I think some of my colours are a bit low too lol xoxo

I thought my prices were to low too. I know people in my area charge lower than me but I agree with the saying you get what you pay for. The reply I sent back to text was ok thanks. I always feel guilty and to the point where I think shall I reply il do it cheaper so I don't loose clients but then I think il be there for ages doing it then theres my petrol to there's and then my products iv used so I think no iv a business to run I still have to pay tax and insurance out of my earnings. If they want to go elsewhere for there hair doing then so be it. I don't want to be known for charging to little I want to be known for a professional service at a good rate. I won't put my prices up just yet as I'm getting the business and I think as summer is round the corner il get busier. But I'm also not going to lower my prices just to make people happy. Xx

Lower your prices for 1 you have to lower for all, it will get out you charged less then every1 will want a lower price. When doing promo's don't lower prices also, throw in an added extra, i often do a included cut for free as my prices don't include it. The nearest to a lower price I do is 10% off total bill when doing 3+ people in one place as it makes me more money than full price in 3 different places xoxo

iv learnt the hard way, moved 8mths ago where i knew no-one so was a good idea to start doing hair to meet ppl.. the problem word got out and every tom dick and harry wants to be your "friend". done hair over a week ago for peanuts and had to text today to get the money and i see her every day.

dont ever lower your prices even for friends coz its a hard trap to get out of. what tomme said was good maybe throw in a free cut for friends.

sorry just my experience and £35 for bleach roots and crazy col and cut bargain...add at least £15 onto it..
