Welcome to the Hair Geek Forums

I wanted to reinforce a couple of important points regarding the use of this forum so please give this a quick gander before creating new threads or new posts.

This is a forum for professional Hair Geeks. That does not mean that you can not post unless you are a pro; it means that you must treat it as a professional forum.

If you are not a hair professional:

• Do not recommend products or procedures (especially OTC and DIY products or procedures. This is a professional forum NOT a DIY shop)
• Do not ask which 'DIY' kits or 'OTC' products to use in performing a treatment on yourself or on a friend

Otherwise, feel free to participate in discussions and contribute constructively. The whole point of bringing Hair, Skin and Nails together was to learn from one another

I agree about not spouting off about the best hair dye in boots as i would regard that a job for the proffesionals....but if i was to find and use a fab new hair mouse or serum, I'm ok to pass that information on...right ???

Its the same as nails - i wouldnt recommend the rio kit to people wanting their nails done.

So its not fair for me to recommend a OTC kit to people for hair.

Respect the advice of professionals - they know best. xx

I don't mind as long as it is a professional product. The Nail Professionals know that OTC nail products are for the most part pants. The Skin Professionals know that OTC skin products for the most part are pants.

I can't think of any Hair Professional that thinks Fructus or Suave is enough of a quality product that they would have it at the back bar.

I agree, we dont need potions made at home posted on here! Just saw one recomending rubbing baking soda into your hair...very professional!

Please be mindful of the rules of the forums. If you are not a professional hair geek then please refrain from giving professional hair advice.

If you want general advice about what products to buy in the likes of Boots or Superdrug then please post these questions in Chit Chat and not in Hair Geek.

Well JDs who recommends using baking soda is a very well respected professional Hairdresser of many years and has been on the hair geek forum with some excellent advice for lots of people .

A lot of hairdressers including myself have always used baking soda as a clarifying treatment .

Therefore if a professional hairdresser recommends it as a clarifying treatment I would say it was professional advice
it is also recommended for cradle cap on babies as a natural alternative from chemicals .

JDs also recommends that after the build up on the hair which was caused by using Pantene,
(which takes 8 shampoos to get it out and is not a professional product )
was also suggesting that after the hair has been treated with the baking soda treatment which is an old and trusted formula within the hairdressing industry,
that when this build up has been taken out of the hair with the baking soda treatment

JDs then recommends using the same shampoos that you reccomended yourself

here are a few more tips

A nurse suggested baking soda mixed with water to toothpaste consistency and spread over the cradle cap. leave to dry and brush out. we've found that we need to wash it fully out after brushing but it works wonders and is less messy than oil. although it does look slightly barmy while it's drying!

Hair and Scalp Care
Add a bit of baking soda to your favorite shampoo to help remove residue left from other hair care products. In your hand, mix hair shampoo with a small amount of baking soda and shampoo as usual.
If your hair turns green from chlorine in swimming pools, wash it with 1/4 cup baking soda added to your shampoo.

So some good old fashioned Hairdressing tips can be just as good too you know x

I've also noticed that sometimes a geek will ask specifically for a pro hair stylists advice and a nail or skin geek will write back giving advice. I think they should leave it to the pro.

Totally agree with all that been said I started out as an hairdresser and then moved onto nails so have not been in the hair loop so to speak for many years now, I have tried to help on the hair geek from time to time when someone posts and gets no replies but I think we need more hair geeks on the boards to help out

Hi, yes this is problematic , there is another one at the moment , and as a professional it makes you feel like not really bothering to give professional answers if this happens ,
but then I think well thats not fair on the person who posted , if you know what I mean x
