hi, my hair fell out in clumps, literally after having my baby 9 months ago. It was really bad but as this was my second child i didnt worry as i knew that it would grow back as the same thing happened with my first. i only had ro run my fingers through and a handful would come out.
However i know that this was down to hormones, maybe not as in your case, but the same thing happened to my friend and as it was so bad for her, her gp gave her some steroid cream as she was so upset by it. so there must be treatments available from your gp, i suggest you get yourself down there, especially if it is getting itchy and sore......have you changed shampoo as certain ones do this to my scalp, i.e dandruff control ones. try not to worry... ![]() ![]() xx |

Hi Sarah,
My best friend had a similar problem - hair falling out at the root. She went to her gp who prescribed her some tablets but they didn't work. Then she discovered that she had a fungal infection of the scalp, which she treated easily by switching to a medicated shampoo. As the other posters have said, there are a million and one reasons for hair loss, and you should go to your gp, but if nothing the doc gives you helps, then the answer could be something as simple as my friend's. |

Hi
I noticed this thread. I'm not a hairdresser, but I speak as someone who has experienced hairloss. Hairloss can be indicative of many underlying conditions, your GP will be able to test for these. Such drastic thinning sounds to be indicative of a condition, rather than mistreatment. May be treatable or not. In my case it wasn't treatable (genetic condition) and I now wear a wig. Sounds terrible, but in fact it was the best thing that could have happened in the circumstances and I wish I had gone for it sooner. I have found a great deal of support via the website below. There's a forum there where you can pick peoples' brains. BUT your first port of call should be your GP. I would strongly recommend that any hairdresser who has a client with any hairloss problem to put them in touch with this forum, it's a fabulous means of support. There are local meet ups and support groups too, which are helpful. Members vary from those with Alopecia Areata who get regrowth, through the whole range to those with Alopecia Universalis who lose all their head and body hair. Also those like you with diffuse hair loss. If you want to pm me about this then go ahead. Web address below Alopecia UK Online :: Alopecia Areata, Alopecia Universalis and Alopecia Totalis |
