hello all you hair professionals!!!

im going to tenerife 2 weeks today!! which im looking forward too!! however the problem is my hair! on the night whilst im on holiday, i like to have my hair down (my hair is shoulder length) however as soon as i walk out of the hotel door, it goes frizzy, limp, wavy, when i have just straightened it!!
so im thinking this time i go away, im having my hair cut short, firstly, for a brand new look and having blonde highlights to look summery! and secondly, hopefully it wont go wavy, frizzy.
however, i would like your advice, will this work and is there any products out there that will keep it under control?
does anyone have the same problem?
also, my hair has only gota smell the rain and it goes frizzy and wavy!!
its not good, especially when i have spent time doing my hair for it too look a mess as soon as i step out of the door!!
