Photo's... Resizing, Uploading and adding Thumbnails to posts

I've done a couple of step-by-steps previously about how to upload photo's to the gallery and also adding thumbnails etc, there are quite a few Geeks who ask about resizing photo's too so I thought I'd do a new step-by-step on the whole shabbang from start to finish so it's all in one place

I’m going to assume that you’re using Windows 98 or XP, apologies to MAC users!

Resizing photo’s ready to upload
  • Locate the photo on your computer that you want to edit
  • Right click the photo and select edit
  • Click on image on the toolbar then click on image stretch/skew
  • this will allow you to reduce the size of your photo, I normally put 50% in the first two boxes, click OK, decide whether they need to be smaller, if so then do it again and put 80% in the first two boxes, this should have reduced the photo to a reasonable size
Cropping Images

You can also crop the photo if there's too much space on either side of the 'object'.
  • There’s a little blue mark in the middle of all sides of the photo
  • Place your mouse over it you’ll see a double arrow
  • Left-click on the double arrow and drag the arrows to the left to make the image narrower, this will get rid of any unnecessary background in the photo
  • Do this to the bottom of the photo if you need to
  • When you’ve done 2 sides you’ll need to rotate the photo 180 degrees to allow you to crop the rest of the photo
  • To rotate the photo click on image on the toolbar then click on Flip/Rotate, click on rotate by angle then click 180, click OK, this will allow you to crop the rest of the photo, when finished rotate the photo by 180 degrees again so it’s at the original angle and correct for viewing
Uploading photo’s to your gallery

You’ve chosen a photo you want to upload to your gallery, but how do you do it?

On the Geek toolbar click on Stuff>>GeekGallery, once you’re on the gallery page there’s a sub-toolbar, click on Upload

The first section you will see tells you how much space you have to upload images (stats), Premium Geeks have 10MB and non-premium geeks have 100kb…

The second section is Image Options, click on Browse and find the file on your computer where your photo is saved… double click the saved photo, the file name will now appear in the little address bar…

Next, choose a name for your photo as you want it to appear on the gallery, ie ‘Forever French’, next decide on the description ie ‘Forever French using xyz L+P products’.

Now you have to decide which category your photo best fits into ie Main.

You now have the choice of adding keywords, this helps Geeks if they’re searching for particular photos, so you might choose ‘Liquid, Powder, Forever, French’.

Finally decide whether you wish to receive email updates when Geeks reply to your image and/or whether you’d like to add the page to your favourites.

Click the Submit button at the bottom and your photo should now appear in the Gallery.

Adding a Thumbnail to your post

Premium Geeks can add a thumbnail photo to their posts… here’s how it works…

Decide which photo you wish to add as a thumbnail, resize it and name it etc.

When you’ve written your thread/reply scroll down to Additional Options, there you will see the heading Attach Files, click on Manage Attachments and a new window will open.

The first section says Upload File from your Computer, click on Browse and find the file on your computer where your photo is saved… double click the saved photo, the file name will now appear in the little address bar.

Click the Upload button… the attachment will then be displayed where it says Current Attachments.

If you want to add more than one repeat the above steps by clicking on Browse etc until you’ve added the number of attached thumbnails.

Click on Close This Window at the bottom and the thumbnail will then appear in your thread or reply.

Hi Sandy
thank you for this, but I do have a question I have been meaning to ask for ages regarding the pics.

I have uploaded a pic months and months ago, and would like to delete it now, but cant figure out how.

I would like to upload an updated pic of my salon, but when I try, its telling me I have no more space, but I cant find anywhere on how to delete the first one I uploaded
.
Would be great if someone knows!
thanks in advance

go to the pic in the gallery... on the right click image tools, edit image... then select delete
You get shedloads of gallery space if you're a premium geek (approx 15Mb), if not you get approx 100kb.

It all depends on the order in which you upload them if you mean attachment pics on threads.
If you mean your profile album I don't think we can rearrange the pics but will have a look and let you know.
