Hello everyone I have a client who is a level 3 I use to colour her hair all over with colour touch then moved on to koleston a few years back, she then moved away but recently has got back in touch for me to do her hair and has developed an allergy to hair colour (she has been home colouring) she's really done her research and believes she is allergic to the ppd in the colour which being a 3 causes her a problem!! So I have been looking at wella innosense and we will be doing a skin test but obviously she's quite nervous.
Would anyone be kind enough to let me know their experience with innosense and how clients are with it and also the result of the colour as she is also 50% white hair.
Thanks Emma x

Hi, I used it this weekend on a client that was itching with the koleston perfect, I used 3/0 on 50% grey it covered lovely with great shine. The client in question had no itching whatsoever . x

Shes got a chemical on her skin it will be itchy but has she developed a rash? Not one from scratching.

No rash just itchy but I explained I would be itchy too if on my arm I think we're good to go??

Innocence is ppd free

Yeah if theres no rash and no swelling you're good to go. I always test behind the ear because thats really the closest to the skin its going on x

I have a client who has the exact same allergy. 50 % white I carried out full head 4/0 wella innosense and it was perfect. No reaction. I would say the colour definitely came out a shade darker though x

Ah thank you yes thats what I thought with the ear am seeing her later today thank you x

My rep also told me that its good for resistant hair and you can use it to cover Grey's if you've run out of double base so I would definitely go a shade up xx

Thank you that's good to know she's got Asian hair so very dark so I'm gonna stick with the 3/0 is 10 vol right? I know lots of people on here will think REALLY?? But as in my previous thread I'm stumped at what to use as I've always used 6% for all darkening as that's what I was taught

Could she have inadvertently wiped the product off from behind her ear?
Most insurers are overly cautious and might not cover you when the client has already admitted to having suffered a previous reaction to colour.

You just need to take care and watch her scalp carefully for any signs of a reaction. There's obviously a big difference between applying a small blob of colour behind the ear to a full global colour application.

Also, many allergies develop over time after repeated exposure so it's prudent to always carry out skin tests on every occasion and if a client complains about itchiness or the scalp feeling hot, then rinse off the product immediately.

Also, some pro brands might be PPD free but will still contains a variant called PTD (para-toluenediamine). PTD can also lead to allergic reactions in people sensitive to either PTD or PPD.

If unsure, new EU labelling requirements mean that any hair colorant products containing PPD, PTD or any other chemically similar dye must include the warning ‘Contains phenylenediamines’ on the pack. It's a helpful reminder to check for the warning on new brands when dealing with clients who are known to be sensitive.

I always use 6% on grey or new regrowth or a change of colour and use pastel to refresh colour, how I was taught too lol :)
