Hello all, first of all can I say what a great site this is and I am soooooooo totally addicted.

Anyway I would really like some help please as I really want to buy tanning equipment and start up mobile tanning. I have about £700 to spend but want to make sure I can get a decent machine. Can I get a decent set up for this money or should I wait until I have more money. Any help with this would be greatfully received. Names of machines and companys to help set up.

Starting out in the tanning industry is very exciting and because of the demand from consumers there is so much to choose from on the market today that you need to do your research before spending your money.

As Pink Potions said in the previous post, Tantrick have a few different packages to offer new technicians which I am sure you would find interesting. Most people worry about the initial outlay but if you can look at the bigger picture often the start up kits have enough solution to get back your initial investment and more.

First you need to decide what type of technician you will be.. ie just mobile, mobile and salon or mainly salon. This is important as you want to be getting the machine that works comfortably for you. Doing a lot of sprays in a salon or mobile day in day out will warrent a higher spec machine that will cope with the workload. However, if its mainly mobile, a smaller machine will cope fine and is perfect for mobile tanning parties or nice and light for picking up and putting into the back of the car.

Another item that is a must for someone starting out is training... and this should be considered as essential as then you can get insurance if you go to a company offering acredited courses.

Plus, the main item you should think about is after sales care and after training care... you do not want to be left high and dry. You need to know that there is someone who is there for any conserns, not just the week following your training.. but even a year on... you will soon realise which tanning companies offer this service.

getting the correct information from scratch is the best that you can do for yourself.

i retrained a tech quite recently that had trained with another well known company and can not believe the service that she had received. they basically told her that she had the knowledge so go use it.

your trainer is so much more than that, i sontinue to and will help my students 1 week, 6 months 2 years down the line as that is my job to help people and to make sure that they have the tools to make them as successful as they want to be.

i really need your help and experience! i am in the US but i was hoping you could tell me which machine is liked most for mobile /salon use, i am anticipating alot of appointments for both since i live in las vegas, nevada and i am an esthetician with a seven year following!every company says there machine is best its so confusing! i have already decided to use many different solutions so i can really customize, but i need a great machine that i dont have to pay 3000 for (i.e. fantasy tan) ! have you heard what most people are using and liking for this kind of volume???? i trust the european market since you guys seem so much more experienced than the american market!!!

Hi . Go onto the Tan professionals web site they do training courses that will show you every type of equipment you can use that way you can see which you like the feel of and which would be best suited to you. Once youve done some training you can ring round every tan solution company and get them to send you samples and figure out for yourself what you would like to work with. I use a HVLP with Xen-tan and Urban Tan. £700 is enought to get you started.

I know this is an old thread but do you think it is necessary to have an extractor if you are mobile?

If you are doing just the 1 tan and are good at not getting much overspray then you could get away with no extraction and asking client to open a window but if you are going to be offering spray tan parties then you will need an extractor,
it is more professional and considerate towards the clients home to use extraction as well as the health & safety reasons, hth
