Hi and welcome to the site.
So what if people are younger, thinner or whatever-they're probably insecure about something as well. They may not have a great personality or a great brain and they may be in awe of you. Never judge a book by it's cover People will take you as they find you and personality is what really counts! |

On my first say I was so so so nervous, I did the combined hair and beauty course which also includes fashion, photographic and theatrical make up. I was 16! and very scared, everyone was different in my class not one person the same, we all looked different, thought differently and that is what made our class we are all individuals. Would be very boring if we were all the same. It was horrible that first day walking in but the best three years of my life. Go for it! lifes to short!

I embaress easily too, especially around people I don't know. But when I was younger having just left school and started college (to do with computers back then!) there were some older ladies on my course and all us wipper snappers looked up to them, no one thought they were better than the mature ones and everyone got on fine!
And I agree with what Angelina says ^ |

I came into the business late in the game - so to speak! Just think that any competition is always good - enjoy the challenges - be yourself (most important!) and your clients will love you! Practice on family/friends/their friends until you feel confident, then go for it! Don't worry about you look - remember everyone has hangups - even Elle MacPherson has birthmarks! Let the clients do the talking until you feel more relaxed.

Hi all. I am Jo, I have not yet enrolled on my chosen courses due to lack of self confidence!! I feel like everyone else on the courses I am after will be younger, slimmer, better looking......etc!!! I am quite a shy person till I get to know people, then I don't shut up! Think it's that first time I need to get over! Plus I get embarrassed very easily, I go bright red when speaking to a whole group or walking into a packed room!! Anyone else feel / felt like this before their course? I'm exactly the same, I got onto my course and was worried , nervous, anxious, go bright red if I speck to a group, but now it's bought out a confidence in me, so it's had it's upside tooo, just go for it, you wont regret it and if you dont, then you prob will regret lol xx

I'm 40 years old and just finished a media and theatrical make up course, I'm not young or skinny, on a 1 to 1 bases i will talk to anyone but i shake and my voice quivers if I'm talking to lots of people, don't worry about it go for it you are who you are and you have to do what you really want to follow ya dream the rest of them don't matte as long as you are leaning what you want. by the way after spending the last 10 years on one course or another i have got over my shaking and quivering go for it girl all the best of luck to you.
