Cheesy Hello from Treen - 15-05-09, 03:44 PM

Hi all,
Just wanted to say hi before I start lurking around your forum

I hope to become a regular poster as I'm gonna have loads and loads of questions and possibly a few opportunities to offer in the near future.

Firstly I am NOT in the beauty industry I've been in the floristry business for over 20 years and currently have a very successful retail flower shop. In recent years I've become increasingly busy and have out grown the retail unit I currently have. I've been looking for a solution to this and as if by magic the adjoining shop unit has come up for rental.

Here comes the good bit ........... I don't need all the space available in the second unit and would like to investigate the possibility of partitioning the unit and creating a small beauty/tanning salon in the frontage.

I won't go on and on right now as I really just wanted to introduce myself at this stage.

I'm a regular user and moderator of a florists forum and I know what it's like to have people peeping on you without an introduction so ......

HI EVERYONE

hi treen and welcome

What a lovely change for a lurker to say hello

As you will know from your own floristry business there is a lot more to the beauty industry than meets the eye. We don't 'do nails' or 'do makeup' anymore than you 'do flowers'!
You have found the right place to find great advice feel free to ask, we all started somewhere

happy lurking

Thanks for your welcomes.

I've tread lightly with my intro as I know what it's like on the florists forum when an "I know nothing" pops up thinking that setting up a florists business is as easy as buying and selling a few flowers.

The plans really are in the investigation stages and I hope to pick up as much as possible from here and one or two other resources before I make an informed decision about whether to go ahead with plans for the salon business.

For me the opportunity is too good to miss! I don't need to generate an income from the new unit, my florists business gives me that, having the extra space will just allow me to run that more efficiently and take on some of the extra jobs I avoid due to the lack of working space.

Naturally I would like to investigate if I'd potentially get a reasonable return for any investment I made in terms of set up costs etc but essentially if the potential is there to cover the overheads whilst giving me the extra space I'd be happy to invest.

The shop is situated in an ideal location, I have 6 years experience of the demographics which are ideal. We have ample 2 hour free parking on a very busy out of town shopping parade and best of all we ...... that's me and my 6 employees ...... would love a nearby salon.

Any tips at this early stage would be much appreciated
