Dollar Bill Nails
..Shh, don't tell the Government!!

Cool Dollar Bill Nails

A while ago there was a post about dollar bill nail art and a few of the geeks wanted to know how to do it...well, this is the way I pull it off...your results may vary.

Well, firstly you need a dollar bill or a copy of a dollar bill for all the government agents and IRS out there...for regular civilians...use a real dollar (we'll use the term paper from now on just to be on the good side of any federal agents that may have nail fetishes) because the color will run off anything else and you won't get the same effect.

Cut the paper to the shape you desire, can measure it if you so desire or you can just wing it, (which I tend to do).

Next, I put a coat of clear on the nail first so that the paper will have something to stick to...slightly, slightly, slightly moisten the paper, but not to wet or your polish will NOT adhere, it's easier to fit the shape of the nail if the paper has some flexibility to it.

After you've done that you can begin to put your clear polish or gel on top...if you are using clear polish keep in mind as I said earlier, unless you find a super thick clear/topcoat it takes about 3 coats before it begins to build up a good shine and plus you want enough to make sure you encase every corner and the seams, the seams are the main things because if you don't have enough clear/topcoat on you will be able to visably see a line of demarcation between the bill..Oops.. the paper and the nail....

And this my geeky friends is how to do "Dollar Bill" Nail art...I hope it was helpful, as this is my very first tutorial...As always I welcome your imput!!

That sounds cool but we don't have dollar bills, nothing smaller than $5 & they're made of plastic

I think it's a great idea, something different. We could still use the oz 'plastic', it would be the same as nail art stickers really. Have to give this one a go!

Question BEFORE or AFTER

If I use acrylic and I want to do the dollar bill nails, would I put the dollar cutout on the natural nail and tip, then put my clear acrylic? Or would I put a thin layer, then apply the bill and top it with a little more acrylic?

Usually I put my tip and overlay on first....then I do the nail art, you can opt to put a thin layer of clear acrylic on top or a thick topcoat, either one should be fine...I must really do a set so I can take some pics for you guys!!
