Minx Step By Step Application and Removal

Step by Step Minx application for both Natural and Enhanced Nails.

Step 1
Gently warm cleansed and manicured nails and Minx under an infrared heat source.

Step 2
Under heat, select the Minx size that best suits the nail

Step 3
Peel the Minx from the backing sheet

Step 4
Under heat, apply to the nail by aligning the curved end of Minx up close, but not touching, the eponychium. Gently pull taught and fold excess Minx over the free edge and secure under the finger. Starting at the eponychium, use your thumbs to smooth Minx from the centre of the nail to the side walls working your way down to the free edge adhering Minx smoothly to the nail surface.

Step 5
Remove from the heat and allow to cool for 10 seconds. Pull the minx downward from under the finger and use the Minx glass file at a 45(degree) angle to the free edge to remove excess.

Step 6
Return to heat and use a soft cuticle pusher to ensure complete adhesion and check that the sides and all edges are snug and air tight.

Step 7
Ask for your clients’ approval by getting them to check for smoothness.

Step by Step Minx Removal for both Natural and Enhanced Nails.

Technicians may warm the hands and minx using the infrared heat source.
Clients may warm hands and Minx using a hairdryer .
Gently lift the Minx from the side and peel off from one side to the other.

Important Things to Remember
  • Minx require no top coat or base coat for application.
  • Minx require no solvents of any kind to remove.
  • Minx removal leaves the nail surface clean, undamaged and not sticky.
  • Minx are long lasting and should last from one nail service to another.
  • Minx are not affected by water, ordinary solvents or the use of cuticle oil.
  • If at first you do not get it right, Minx can be peeled back and re applied (once)
  • Follow the same principles as for applying polish. Don’t go too close to the sidewalls or eponychium.

You may be stretching the minx too much when applying ... minx should be just taut not stretched.

You may not be letting minx cool sufficiently before you file the free edge

You may be using the file in a 'see saw' motion instead of in one direction and at a 45degree angle to the fee edge

hope this helps

just wondered as i have a few clients off on holiday to rather hot destinations, will the Minx peel of if caught after or during sunbathing (as it will get rather warm in the sun) ?

Probably daft question I know....

It's a perfectly reasonable question.

The answer is if someone scuffs a Minx veneer when it is hot then yes, they would scuff it.

The good news is that if it is hot enough to scuff, it is hot enough to smooth back into place. Never heard of anyone scuffing Minx in this manner though. Bear in mind they are not indestructable, nothing is. Thankfully Minx cool off in seconds and then it is much more difficult to harm them in any way.

thank you for your reply and here's question number 2 (sorry)

having applied my first set on me tonight i find the free edge is a little bit rough even after I've filed the excess away. Can a gentle buffer smooth it out?

(even after a first attempt - boy it looks great!!!!)

I find the 1200 side of the CND Koala buffer useful. Don't see saw back and forth with the Minx file. Firm strokes from the side to the centre in one direction only and make sure they are cool before you do it.

When I used one I just waved the hairdryer over the minx until I thought it was warm enough. Minx don't have to be 'cooked' just warm .. I actually used the hot setting. I used the dryer myself not the client. This isn't difficult. You'll feel that it is warm and then peel it off the backing to apply.

I have been looking into Minx and think it looks amazing. Where can I get hold of some? I was also wondering if it was something you need to do training for?
Thanks for your help x

Minx is the hottest new service to hit nails, and techs and clients alike are loving it ... they've really given salon business a big boost.

They can be purchased from SweetSquared (the home of CND in the UK) and you do not need training as there is a class on line at: Minx Nail Coverings

If you are a nail technician you can do Minx and you can buy Minx. If you cannot prove that you are a professional you will not be able to purchase.
