Sorry but I am on one now. I take my hat off to all the geeks who put their pics up for critique, but............what I detest is, those those who comment but never post their pics! Why is that?

What i also detest is the "look at me pics", you know you are good, you aren't looking for critique, you are looking for stroke my ego. So why do you do that?

I may be unpopular with this this thread but in the words of Vicky Pollard, am I bovvered! In a word...........NO. I am more concerned and wanting to help those that want to learn, not those that that just want to show off.

I have put a few pics up for critique and have learned loads, it is what is all about IMHO

Hiya Fixi trix I think the worst thing is when someone puts a pic up thinking they have done a lovely set of nails, then you point out the faults and they attack you for it, I say don't bother unless you want to hear the truth

Well I rarely post in a critique but I have posted my nails once or twice. I appreciated the feedback when I did but I do feel sometimes there are too many 'very good' type comments, about my nails and others, when perhaps I'd like, and I'm sure others would, a very blunt no holds barred opinion.

I have respect for anyone who puts up a critique (for genuine critique). I, myself have never had the courage to do this. (dont think i could take the negatives. So just post straight to my album.

That is another side of it hun, I get that completely, if you want to learn you take on board, yet again another reason I don't critique very often, fab point.

I've never posted a critique. I mostly do NNO, I don't think I'm good enough for a critique, IYGWIM.

I start L&P a college in December. Once I start that I'll probably post some. I kinda feel like I'm playing with nails ATM and not worthy of a critique.

I do love looking at them though and through people's albums. A lot of beautiful work.

TweezerHappy, you are always good enough for a critique. IMO I believe the critique section was to help all in building their skills. Whether you post a picture for critique or offer constructive critique, either is a "win, win" on the journey of learning.

Now, little miss fifitrix - you will never be unpopular, we love you and your valuable input on this site, and a very interesting thread you have started.

I enjoy critiquing geeks pic's, I trust that my comments are constructive and help. It gives me pleasure to help and often I learn as well.

I've never put a set up for critique, because when I look at them, I know what's wrong and generally what I need to do to make them better. So if they are rubbish, I keep them to myself and if I think, these are great then they go in my album
But I always try to give an honest opinion when I see a set up for critique and help if I can.

I am not yet brave enough to post pics of my own for critique. I like to look at others critiques but do not comment as I don't feel I'm up to a standard where I should be pointing out other people's nail problems yet.

I am so vain that when I do have a set that I might put on critiques, I think - ah, this is not like Mieke's one I saw or something... or some smile line is not perfect or line of light... so I don't post. And then - if I do make a perfect set of nails, why posting? What's to critique? And again, if I'm still not producing perfect nails (or ones that I would consider perfect), then I could really use help from others? Going in circle! LOL

Yes, I do have issues with posting my pictures , and yes, I think critiques are good and helping, and yes, I don't answer to 'look at me and stroke my ego' posts, and no, you won't be unpopular, Fifi, because critiques cannot be without blur areas - people post, we answer or not by our own judgement, some you like, some you say, go with this or that and that will do the trick, some you think - where the he** have you came up with this horror, I don't know... we're human, we see things differently, we do things differently... but certanly, if I had posted something, I know that that would help me... rather than fighting it on my own.

... so I decided to go with the 'Live and let live' option. If I can help, I will, if I can't, or I don't like it for my personal reasons (some nail art, for example), I'll keep it for myself.

I have put up a couple pics for critique and was very happy with all the responses I got, good and bad. I even got repped for my attitude towards a constructive critique which I thought was rather surprising. My personal attitude is that you learn by your mistakes and if you are not willing to take the good with the bad then don't post your work. There is absolutely no point asking for a critique and then attacking the negative or more appropriate constructive critisicms. I also don't see the point of "They are lovely" fine in what way are they lovely, you should and need to explain your approval if you are willing to post a response to a critique.

In the rare occasions that I have critiqued I have always started my critique with "I don't as yet feel qualified to do so but ....." and then I usually comment on the artistry/smile line/shape or whatever I see to be appropriate basically what I feel I can critique, but I always finish of with something positive, if I can't then I don't critique.

btw I totally agree with your "stroking my ego" comment and think I know which pic you could possibly be refering to that may have prompted this thread. I avoid these like the plague, they know they are good they don't need us feeding their "oh look at my work, I'm so clever"

I saw this also and the first thing that came to mind was...showing off!

Although it is fab so see other peoples work i did think why was it not in the critques as there was no question in the post either, but I'm sure the person knew that the photo's wouldn't get so much attention there !

I have posted a critque and found it very helpful with the comments good and bad, that how we learn.

Anyway

Maybe the person your talking about doesnt realise that they can post their pics elsewhere and they just wanted to share their work

I have posted in critique and also added critque where I felt able its a great way of getting expert help on your weak points.

I am so with you on this one Fi and good on you for doing this thread.
